Silence Of The Lambs Director Jonathan Demme Has Died at 73

Award-winning director Jonathan Demme died on Wednesday at the age of 73 following a battle with cancer, according to a report from Variety.

Demme is best-known for having directed Silence Of The Lambs, which won Academy Awards in all five major categories in the year it was eligible (best picture, best actress, best actor, best director, and best adapted screenplay).

He also directed Philadelphia, for which Tom Hanks won an Oscar, and Beloved, as well as documentaries, including Stop Making Sense, the Talking Heads concert movie. Most recently, he directed Ricki And The Flash, which starred Meryl Streep.
