That Was Fast: Golden Voiced Ted Williams Reportedly Picked Up By LAPD Last Night

Last week the media offered a terrific feel-good story: the sudden transformation of the so-called “Golden Voiced Homeless Man” from the streets of Columbus, Ohio to mainstream media star making appearances on Today and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon (among other notable programs.) Some wondered if the sudden fame brought to the viral video sensation would be a storm that Williams could weather, or if he would soon end up in trouble. Well according to Mediaite’s sister site Gossip Cop, it appears that the good times may have already come to an end for Mr. Williams.

Gossip Cop reports:

The formerly homeless Williams, who has battled drug and alcohol problems, got into a heated argument with his daughter at the Renaissance hotel, say sources.

An LAPD spokesman tells Gossip Cop that the police “responded to a disturbance call at the Renaissance Hotel last night at about 9 p.m.” and two people “were transferred to the Hollywood station.”

The spokesman added, “The investigation is ongoing,” but “no one was booked, no files were charged.”

During his appearance on Today, host Matt Lauer asked if Williams was going to be able to handle the intense media scrutiny and attention. While it might be too early to say exactly, it appears that Mr. Williams might have his work cut out for him.

Teddy, the predators are postured for your fall. Take cover.

  • Harry Flashman

Sad. I hope he survives this and takes advantage of the second chance that came his way.

    Good luck, bud.

When they first arrived, police said that they thought they heard an argument coming over a radio , only to discover that it was Golden Voice Ted Williams yelling at his daughter.

    Strident Right = Limbaugh, Hannity
    Strident Left = Olberman, Maddow
    Right = O’Reilly
    Left = Matthews
    Center Right = Scarborough
    Center Left = (doesn’t exist)

Olberman is to Limbaugh as Limbaugh is to Olberman!

Disagree. Olbermann is to Hannity as both are extreme party cheerleaders without original solutions or problem solvers. Rush and O’Reilly have offered solutions, moreso O’Reilly who is a good negotiator.
Scarborough is not center-right. He is a former con, who left politics in a degrace, who cannot find work outside of MSNBC, so he sucks up to Phil Griffin’s liberal network

    That WAS fast… Holy Crap.

The media loves to ‘build’ up someone and then take them down. Quite sick, really. I’m sure he’ll have struggles as he restarts his life, just pray for him. He’ll need as much support to as he regains normalcy as he will dealing with our crazy media loons.

I hope he knows many prayers are for him as he deals with the sudden fame.

  • TangledThorns

Well, he has a lot of baggage and is now famous so this is expected. Hope he can stay above it.

  • Tucker P.

Can’t wait to see what he’ll do with a lot of money when he gets it . He’s got talent for sure .

    Wrong thread and Aerosmith sucks.

He had too much, too fast, too soon. I read of his past offenses with drugs and alcohol and said to myself:
“I hope he can overcome all this.” We shall see.

If it was any other PD than LAPD, I’d say okay maybe Williams is guilty of something. But I’ve lived in this city for over 50 years, and DWB is still a reason to get hassled. The LAPD is racist. They always have been, and until they tear their department apart and deal with the problem – which they have no intention of doing – any black man arrested by LAPD drew attention in the first place because of the color of his skin. And I’m white, so this isn’t a racially-motivated rant. It’s just how it is in LA.

Evolution, is my cup of poison. Given mans clever embellishments throughout history, and having been reared under the iron fist of Catholicism, I tossed religion decades ago. Darwin, and his contemporaries, make a much better case. But, if there were a second advent, and Christ did show up…wouldn’t you hate to be in his sandals? I’m sure (as the son of god), he would have to know what to expect from a 21st century style crucifixion. I can see the paparazzi now…glowing with vengeful satisfaction as they film Jesus, being dragged through Times Square, and dropped like a new years ball from some high rise. This would be a media throw down. All the vultures, would be on site, giving their analogy of why he deserves to die. There would be fireworks displays, hot dog venues, Lady GooGoo, cranking out a raspy crucifixion song, Glen Beck and the other disciples peeking from behind police mounted horses, the Pope and The Mullahs, endorsing the punishment of this heretic, O’Rielly, finally putting a spin on a story, Spielberg & Gibson, teaming up to do a sequel to the Passion, and all the believers watching in disbelief as their King, is yet again slaughtered, for bucking the establishment. I think I’ll remain a peasant, and an evolutionist. Damn…we have some real bad genes out there.

    Called it.

The man has crack-brain. Didn’t you guys hear him crying “mommy” 100 times at the airport.
Something’s not right in the membrane.
He needs complete adult rehabilitation at somewhere like the Salvation Army, not fame and fortune,
    I speak from experience.

    This will not end well.

The problem with being an addict and homeless for so long is that you don’t just have to learn how to quit you also have to learn how to live again.

    That’s why it’s called “rehab”.

  • JJ Vachon

Did they thnk that pulling him in from the streets and giving him money would change his character? There’s an old saying, “wherever you go, there you are”!

  • Larkinvos

    “No files were charged?” Huh?
Is that the same as, “No charges were filed?”

  • http://twitter.com/SailRabbits Magister

Folks – It says that he and his daughter got into an argument at a hotel. I have to assume that because he had been homeless in Ohio, it may have been a while since they had seen each other and possibly she needed to give him some blame.

I don’t know. I wasn’t there, but the posts read like they got loud and then either their neighbors or the front desk called the cops.

  • tigerprez

I’m pretty sure this is all Sarah Palin’s fault somehow. Or perhaps the tone of the political rhetoric in this country made Williams agitated and he lashed out at his daughter. Whatever the case, I’m sure the Tea Party is largely responsible for this.

I’m certain neither Sara or the Tea Party had anything to do with this homeless man’s plight. But it’s sure as hell known to many in this nation that Sara Palin set the tone for this idiotic killers deed.

This is exactly why addicts need recovery and rehab.
To learn how to deal with the guilt and blame they more than likely deserve, w/o picking up a bottle or a pipe.
Your family is not going to immediately trust you for shit just because you cry “I’ll be good, mommy” on national TV.
You have to earn it over a long period of time, something our friend Ted has not learned yet and it is pissing him off.

This was inevitable and there is more to come until he gets help from at least AA or NA.
But being homeless for so long he really needs a 6 month rehab and then a half-way sobriety house.

  • BFD

Unfortunately the idiots who are leading him by the nose will probably put him on Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew.

  • http://societyfordaintydamsels.wordpress.com Lynda Appell

Dear BFD if seems like you’ve been there , addictions rehab so I figure you know of what you speak. I hope that Ted Williams will go into rehab. I know in PA and other states there are mental health courts. People charged with misdemeanors, non violent crimes are given the option of either going into treatment or go through with the original penalty. OTOH this may sound very human but in a way it smacks of blackmail to me. I wonder what you would think of an equivalent or at least as close as can be equivalent of an addictions court?

  • Nahu Tuk

“The spokesman added, ‘The investigation is ongoing,’ but ‘no one was booked, no files were charged.’”

Editors are in short supply. Don’t you think that should have read “no charges were filed?”

Most people in rehabs are there because they flunked out of drug court and the judge sentenced them to live-in sobriety.
Drug courts are most successful for first time users who need a second chance.
This man is obviously on his 134th chance. He needs more.

This kid in Tuscon doesn’t have a clue who Sarah Palin even is. He targeted the Congresswoman in 2007 long before she was around or the Tea Party was either. You are loon.

  • Jayson

No one was booked, no charges were laid. Even though you have it backwards.

Question is.. If no one was charged, why would you think this is news?

  • http://twitter.com/SailRabbits Magister

@BFD: I’m sure that the 12 steps help some people and I’d never say anything against them, if they were someone’s choice, but if the daughter was pissed at her Dada and/or wanted a slice of his newfound pie, why would that have anything to do with addiction?

Reportedly, they were being put-up by Dr. Phil in the hotel. The rooms may have been booked under an assistant’s name or quite possibly, Dr. Phil has standing rooms and because his guests can be trouble, the first noise complaint, the front desk called the cops.

I’m not an addict and have had the front desk call on once or twice because one of my kids were loud. Perhaps he didn’t get that luxury because it was Dr. Phil’s room. IOW: It seems like you and Colby are making a huge leap. Hell, the daughter could’ve been drunk and Ted may have been trying to talk her down. We don’t know.

From looking at the comments, I am pretty sure 90% of the people above didn’t read the story. He got into an argument, he wasn’t caught snorting blow off a dead hooker.

You are so bright that your bulb is dim if you think I’m a loon. First, the media and police DO NOT know all about this idiot. He need only GLANCE at Sara Palins map, or have listened to her divisive and un-knowledgeable rantings (like yours),to have sparked his interest in carry out his deeds. It is no coincidence that this happened dude.

Have you watched CNN and/or listened to the countless Americans who share the same ideology of Sara Palin’s map? Get real!

  • Tedderman

Too late, ted’s checking into a rehab facility on Dr. Phil’s dime. This man doesn’t need the limelight, he needs to heal first.
