Sarah Palin’s Never Before Seen 2008 Victory Speech Gets Leaked

palinspeechAs we approach the anniversary of the 2008 presidential election, many are looking back on President Obama’s first year in office. But what if it never was? Today, The Daily Beast has the exclusive text of Sarah Palin’s prepared speeches — win or lose — on that fateful night last November. And they’re as entertaining as one could’ve hoped.

The upcoming biography Sarah From Alaska uncovers new details from within the campaign, including the two speeches, written by Palin speechwriter Matthew Scully. Neither speech was delivered, and according to the Daily Beast, “senior McCain aides had to tell Palin several times that she would not be allowed to speak before the Alaska governor finally relented.”

Here are some of the most quotable selections from the speeches, as curated by the Daily Beast:

Best Lines from Palin’s Undelivered Victory Speech:

“And I said to my husband Todd that it’s not a step down when he’s no longer Alaska’s ‘First Dude.’ He will now be the first guy ever to become the ‘Second Dude.’”

“Had it gone the other way tonight, we would not have returned in sorrow to the great State of Alaska. We would have carried with us memories that are forever, and joyful experiences that do not depend on victory.”

“This is a moment when principles and political independence matter a lot more than just the party line.”

Best Lines from Palin’s Undelivered Concession Speech:

“If [Obama] governs America with the skill and grace we have often seen in him, and the greatness of which he is capable, we’re gonna be just fine.”

“Now it is time for us go our way, neither bitter nor vanquished, but instead confident in the knowledge that there will be another day.”

“It would be a happier night if elections were a test of valor and merit alone, but that is not for us to question now.”

“I told my husband Todd to look at the upside: Now, at least, he can clear his schedule, and get ready for championship title number five in the Iron Dog snow machine race!”

She also notes that “when a black citizen prepares to fill the office of Washington and Lincoln, that is a shining moment in our history that can be lost on no one.” Classy or crass?

I’ve never understood the degree of venom directed at Sarah Palin. David Letterman did a scathing bit on her ( one of many, of course) referencing what ‘Vanity Fair’ was reporting. He conveiniently didn’t let on that it was Levi Johnston doing the reporting. Man. What’s with Johnston being given a megaphone every time he hints at hurtful insider information? That said, I am firmly convinced that she is not qualified to hold high public office.

I have the exact same view as you, Trickletown. Never understood why people outright hate her either, but I’d also never want to see her President (or VP).

I have to agree. The venom directed at her was inexplicable. I did not feel she was qualified for VP, but I also felt that she deserved the respect due anyone that attains a governorship.

To be fair, she does bring a lot of this on herself, but not to the degree we see.

  • Chris Jones says:

Liberals hate her with every fiber of their being, because she is exactly the kind of woman that radical feminists have been trying to stamp out for 30 years. You can’t be a real ‘woman’ unless you’re Berkeley educated, abortion-loving, gun-control advocating, PETA donating, Prius driving, Maureen Dowd reading, Arianna Huffington worshiping, Rachel Maddow watching, Obama voting, Gloria Steinam reading, radical femiNazi.

    Chris -

You mean the way so-called “conservatives” hate Obama with every fiber of their being? Watch out for that glass house thing.

Obama’s shenigans affect every American now and in the future. He has the power to destroy this great republic and is working towards that end. Palin on the other hand, has no power in politics and has no say. So what is the point in attacking her? It reveals the small mindedness and intellectually ineptmess of those who attack her.

Let’s just put it this way: Sarah had never been number two in her life. She’d always had to do things her way, and the McCain way was horrible. So, she ticked a lot of people off.

My nine year old daughter can write with better thought through and meaningful remarks than the 5th grade rubbish than the former Governor of Alaska. It amazes me how some Americans think she can be President. George W. Bush would be a genius compared to Palin.
