Now THAT’s Nonpartisan! Ukrainian Parliament Erupts In Violence

Are you tired of our politicians fighting with each other more than they cooperate to actually get things done? Feeling ashamed you have to call THOSE people your representatives? Well, allow us to point out the bright side – at least this isn’t Ukraine.

Yes, that nation’s government is deservedly becoming a world punchline over full-on brawling/tomato/egg/smoke-bomb-throwing (all of those things are actually happening) taking place among lawmakers in Ukraine’s capital of Kiev. What’s causing them to lose their minds? According to the AP article linked above, it’s a vote over whether the Russian Navy can keep using a port on the Black Sea. Many Ukrainians feel Russia maintains too strong an influence in their now-independent nation, and as such should not be granted an extension on its port-using rights. Apparently, those against the extension are very passionate in this belief. Witness this video of people whaling on each other (including legitimate one-on-one wrestling matches far from the main scrum), or the one below. Also note the lawmakers brandishing umbrellas to shield themselves from the various flying objects.

What do Ukrainian news outlets have to say about the whole affair? As this photo feature (which came with Slate’s seal of approval), says:

??? ???????, ???????? ?? ???????? ?????? ? ???? ??????????, ??????? ????????? ????????????? ?????????, ????????????? ?????????? ?????? ? ???????? ???????, ??????????? ???????? ??? ??????????? ??????????, ??? ???????? ????????????, ????? ? ?????, ?????????? 236 ????????? ????????? ????.

Touché, guys! In the face of all this, “You lie!” is looking pretty good. Oh, and Ukraine approved the extension. Now watch the video.
