US Tax Dollars May Be Funding The Taliban

A congressional subcommittee chaired by Rep. John Tierney, D-Mass., released a report today with allegations that security firms in Afghanistan that hold contracts with the Pentagon may be extorting money and giving it to the Taliban. The report claims that up to $4 million a week of American tax payer money could be being used to help fund our enemies.

From the Associated Press:

“The payments reportedly end up in insurgent hands through a $2.1 billion Pentagon contract to transport food, water, fuel and ammunition to American troops stationed at bases across Afghanistan. To ensure safe passage through dangerous areas, the trucking companies make payments to local security firms with ties to the Taliban or warlords who control the roads. If the payments aren’t made, the convoys will be attacked, according to a U.S. military document detailing the allegations being examined by investigators.”

While these allegations aren’t new, the report released today will be sure to give them tons of exposure. Expect this story to get lots of press and airtime in the coming weeks as the investigation continues. It will be of particular interest to the Tea Party and any other political movement advocating the lowering of taxes. Once Americans learn that the taxes they already hate paying may be going, in part, to an organization dedicated to undermining our country, there is going to be a lot of unhappy people.

a classic case of the media PROJECTING how they think the “normal folk” should feel. why yes Jon, i’m sure it will just be the tea party folks (btw, they’re just republicans) and “other political movement advocating the lowering of taxes”. Hey jon, could you do ME A FAVOR? could name 3 “political movement advocating the lowering of taxes” because of this story? I’m not saying they don’t exist but I would love some names. Just 3 of them Jon. It should be easy and when you do, can you link them to this report? BTW, what the hell does “political movement advocating the lowering of taxes” have to do w/ the story? Because lowering taxes will win the war in Afghanistan and root out possibility corruption! WOW! I just solved all of our problems in a comment section! Yeah for me!

Another question Jon…did the Afghanistan war start yesterday? Did it start last year? Did it start FIVE YEARS ago? Why no Jon, it started SEVEN FREAKING YEARS AGO…and now comes along this report that, EGADS!, never existed before! oh wait…corruption and pay offs have never happened in any war before this one…well…there was the Civil War, WW1, WW2, Vietnam, arming rebels during Reagan Admin. (thank you Casper Weinberger!), etc etc etc. No Jon, never happened during those wars. But hey, good news….you can respond or put some effort into JUST REPORTING the story of corruption and then STOP PROJECTING how others SHOULD/COULD FEEL. thanks. btw, tell Steve I said hi…and when I say I, I mean Costner and Cameron.

oh crap, I forgot about that other war, Iraq. No corruption there either. No missing money there either…except the 11 billion that went missing in ’05 or ’06….meh…no biggie….imagine all those PROJECTING stories you could write! wow! So many things you could do Jon! get on it!

    what. a. joke.
