US To Press Charges Against Soldier Who Leaked WikiLeaks Video

CNN is reporting that the US will be pressing charges against Pfc. Bradley Manning, the young soldier who leaked the footage that eventually became the infamous WikiLeaks “Collateral Murder” video. Manning was arrested by federal officials a few months ago. He has been detained in Kuwait without charges until now.

From CNN:

“The U.S. military said Tuesday it is pressing criminal charges against Pfc. Bradley E. Manning, 22, for allegedly transferring classified data onto his personal computer and adding unauthorized software to a classified computer system.”

Manning is also believed to have leaked 260,000 classified cables to WikiLeaks.

Good. What he did was illegal. What he did was more dangerous than some out of context comments by McCrystal. There is something in the military called the UCMJ, or Uniform Code of Military Justice. He violated it, and upon a court martial, I hope he goes to Leavenworth.

When I was in the military any one with access to classified material besides having a clearance had to also sign a non disclosure form. If that is still the case it means everything he did was done knowingly i.e. he was aware of the punishment involved prior to disclosing the information.

If McChrystal’s comments were out of context, why did he not defend himself and retire?

Dress him in civvies, put a rocket launcher in his hands, turn him loose on a street in Bagdad, and call in the choppers.

Because he is above it. The “reporter” took comments among staff members and the general that were believed to be off the record. Was he wrong? Sure, he should have been smart enough to know that Rolling Stone mag would happily put a knife in the back of a service member.

The left is praising this punk as a whistleblowing hero. This traitor is the liberal version of a true American Soldier. Sucks doesn’t it?

Regardless if someone thinks he did the right thing or not, the fact is that he took the video out of a classified context and put it out on the web. That is a minimum of 20 years at Leavenworth. Believe me, the Army, especially the MI Corps beats into you that you cannot take classified material out of the contained area.

How about more stories on the DOJ Whistle Blower? Lots of DOJ lawyers stepping up to the plate to agree with him. He testified today. Steve Krakauer is the one individual on this board who has the guts to step out of the group think mode….good for him.

Kam: And throw away the key.

You’re absolutely right on there…this was clearly a calculated effort by Pfc. Manning to sacrifice himself for the ideals of this country. He was well aware of the jeopardy he was putting himself into, and chose to take it on. Just the kind of guts one would expect from our armed forces personnel.
