Bill Carter Reveals Jeff Zucker And Jay Leno’s Reaction To War For Late Night

Bill Carter took his publicity tour for The War For Late Night to late night last night – as a guest on Jimmy Kimmel‘s ABC show.

With two weeks since the book’s release, Carter could talk about the reactions he’s gotten from people who have read it – like Jeff Zucker and Jay Leno.

First though, Kimmel read a passage from the book…about him. Carter described him as “not really overweight, but always slightly puffy, Kimmel looked less like a leading man than a relaxed jeans model.”

Then it was onto the key players, Leno and Conan O’Brien. “There seems to be a recurring theme there,” said Kimmel. “Is Jay Leno the Devil? Let’s get right to that.”

As for reaction, Carter said he heard from Zucker’s “people”: “They were okay with it. They said basically it’s hard to read and relive but accurate and well-told.”

As for Leno’s people, “They were very nice about it,” said Carter. “That’s how they operate,” joked Kimmel, who himself said the book was “right on.”

And although the hardcover has only been out less than two weeks, get ready for the paperback, where “there are already going to be more things” – an update to the late night war. Here’s the interview:

Eh, the update will be that Conan stopped being funny the day they announced he was getting The Tonight Show, and nothing’s changed. Really, is there anything sadder than Conan..with a beard..on TBS..without Springsteen’s drummer..with the sidekick whose comedy career failed?
