For those who aren’t familiar, BritWeek is an annual celebration held on the west coast, honoring the unique mixture of British and California cultures. For its 2012 celebration, it has chosen to honor CNN’s Piers Morgan during its sixth annual gala (which runs from April 24 to May 7 this year).

Piers Morgan got to sit down with Rep. Ron Paul last time and ran the gamut of topics– from Mitt Romney to the Congressman’s exercise regimen. Rep. Paul was relaxed and cheerful to be there, but was taken a bit by surprise when Morgan tried to explain Rep. Paul’s position in the race, and found himself comparing Rep. Paul to Sylvester Stallone.

Piers Morgan interviewed Ron Paul on Friday, in a wide-ranging interview that touched on everything from Paul’s views on abortion to Mitt Romney‘s comments on not being concerned with the “very poor.”

This week, thanks to an interview with Suze Orman, Piers Morgan Tonight hit 266,000 in the 25-54 year old demo, which put him in second place in the time slot Wednesday night, his highest in months. That means it’s time to celebrate. And, if you know Piers Morgan, you know what kind of celebration he’d choose; it’s time for some Twitter snarking!

Piers Morgan got a shot at talking extensively with Alec Baldwin tonight about a little bit of everything– his acting career, his relationship with flight attendants, and yes, his politics. That latter point resulted in some of the most compelling parts of the interview, in which Morgan asked Baldwin what he thought of a potential mayoral run in New York City, and how much he had considered a serious career in politics.

Andrew Breitbart and Piers Morgan have made up since the time Morgan joked the former was “evil.” Not that he didn’t joke about it last night, but with that tension out of the way, the two– and a panel including Amy Holmes and Michael Reagan got to the business of just how conservatives could like Newt Gingrich again, of all people, and came to a strong conclusion: conservatives want someone to defend them from the mainstream media.

During CNN’s election coverage of the South Carolina primary results, Wolf Blitzer “corrected” Piers Morgan for saying fellow network colleague John King “attacked” Newt Gingrich when he asked the former Speaker of the House about the “open marriage” controversy.

Piers Morgan admitted that it was an “impossibly hypothetical” question, but trudged on anyway, and asked Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum as personal a question on the matter of abortion he could: if his daughter were raped, and “begged to have an abortion,” would his political principles win out? This was the most dramatic part of Morgan’s interview with Santorum last night, where he also challenged the candidate’s credentials on life by making him justify capital punishment.

In a preview of Wednesday’s Piers Morgan Tonight, former President Jimmy Carter surprised host Piers Morgan with his somewhat blunt (by mainstream media standards) assessment of former House Speaker Newt Gingrich. Speaking of Gingrich’s standing ovation moment at Monday night’s debate, President Carter told Morgan “I think (Gingrich) has that subtlety of racism that I know quite well, that appeals to some people in Georgia.”

Rosie O’Donnell spoke with CNN’s Piers Morgan about the GOP race, and discussed the anti-gay rhetoric being espoused in some of the various campaigns. “We’re a backward nation in many ways,” O’Donnell observed. “That’s one of the ways most evident nowadays especially with the election — to think you can turn on the presidential debate and you can have people actually say they think being gay is wrong is shocking in 2012. It’s shocking to me.”

Last night, CNN’s Piers Morgan found himself, as a kick-off to his one-year anniversary celebration, in the role of interviewee when late night host (and, now, sitcom star) Chelsea Handler confronted Morgan about his aggressive — and often flirtatious — interviewing style.

A couple of nights ago, during CNN’s New Hampshire coverage, there was an incredibly uncomfortable moment when Piers Morgan asked Andrew Breitbart a question while jokingly saying that he was “notoriously evil to people.” Breitbart misunderstood Morgan’s very British use of the word evil and reacted angrily. It was very tense but, fortunately, Morgan explained the misunderstanding an hour later in an email, the two made up, and Breitbart tweeted that they were “all good.” The end.

…until last night when Breitbart went on FBN to talk about how horrible Morgan is.

There was a whole lot going on last night and somehow we missed this little gem; During CNN’s New Hampshire coverage, Piers Morgan had a satellite chat with Michael Reagan and Andrew Breitbart. Morgan tried to ask Breitbart how badly the candidates were breaking the 11th Commandment of Michael’s father, jokingly referring to his guest as being “notoriously evil.”

The night after Iowa has been spent on cable news mostly interviewing candidates about their results there, and probing them on problematic issues. Piers Morgan opened his program tonight with a chat with Rep. Ron Paul, in which he asked the candidate to assess his performance and challenged him on his weaknesses. He also brought up a gaffe from earlier in the week– a mocking tweet at Jon Huntsman Rep. Paul claimed not to know about, and scolded Rep. Paul for being uninformed about it– as Huntsman himself looked on.

If you thought the battle between Rick Santorum and Mitt Romney* for top spot in Iowa was the roughest exchange of the night, you should probably start following some cable news personalities on Twitter. This time, it was Piers Morgan and Keith Olbermann who found themselves locking antlers via social media because of tonight’s Iowa caucus

CNN host Piers Morgan is scheduled to testify via videolink to Parliament this week over his potential involvement in any journalistic misconduct that took place when he worked at tabloids such as The Daily Mirror and former Rupert Murdoch publication News of the World.
