Now after a few weeks passed since President Obama successfully ordered the killing of Osama bin Laden, Chris Matthews wondered how much the act improved Obama’s relationship with the military. Elisabeth Bumiller from the New York Times admitted it was a boost, but warned that Obama’s proposed budget cuts to the military could jeopardize the warm feelings. Joe Klein, however, viewed the relationship as being in much better condition.

In Bill Maher‘s “Overtime” segment filmed with his guests after the televised show is complete, former terrorism advisor Richard Clarke pleased Maher’s liberal-leaning audience, but raised eyebrows elsewhere when he suggested President Bush deserves “zero” credit for helping to locate Osama bin Laden. The sole conservative on the panel, Reihan Salam, wondered why Clarke wasn’t willing to admit that at least some efforts made by the Bush administration contributed.

Jon Stewart was impressed with the elaborate heist former Bush administration officials were trying to pull off: stealing credit for the killing of Osama bin Laden away from the man who actually ordered the kill, President Obama. Stewart stated, “of course to steal this much glory, you’d have to reassemble the whole team,” before a video spoof of the movie Ocean’s Eleven played, humorously titled “Nine’s Eleven.”

In retrospect, Republican Senator John McCain looked particularly foolish saying it would be naive for then presidential candidate Barack Obama to say he would go into Pakistan to get Bin Laden.

On Thursday night’s The Last Word, host Lawrence O’Donnell conducted an intense interview with former Secretary of State  Condoleezza Rice, challenging her on what many consider the Bush administration’s detour into Iraq, away from the hunt for Osama bin Laden. Rice was among the Bush administration officials who tried to establish a link between bin Laden and Saddam Hussein, a link they later backed away from.

Al Sharpton, in a radio interview yesterday, praised President Obama‘s “focused and laser mentality” for achieving the goal of killing of Osama bin Laden. Not only because he he did “what George Bush was unable to do,” but also because Obama delivered on his own personal promise. Yet when the topic turned to President Bush, Sharpton’s praise abruptly ended.

If you’re looking for a contender for one of the most outrageous things said in the aftermath of Osama bin Laden‘s killing, look no further than liberal radio host Mike Malloy who basically suggested that if Bin Laden was killed by a Navy Seal unit then so should former President George W. In a lively–and at times heated–debate on Tuesday morning’s Morning Joe, Joe Scarborough questioned whether President Obama–who began his re-election campaign yesterday–has lost the “halo” he wore when he ran for president in 2008, focusing specifically on his campaign vow to close the military prison at Guantanamo Bay. “He found Gitmo so repugnant, he vowed to get rid of it in his first day in office,” Scarborough said, noting that has of course not happened.

Former President George W. Bush seemed content as “the retired guy” on The O’Reilly Factor last night, but if the American Civil Liberties Union has anything to do with it, that retirement probably won’t be quite as peaceful as he envisioned.

After giving a statement on the midterm elections earlier today, President Obama took questions in the East Room of the White House. ABC News reporter Jake Tapper reminded the President that, in 2006, former President Bush said “we took a thumpin’” after a similar political drubbing and plainly asked the the sitting president “what does it feel like?” Obama did not hesitate in replying “it feels bad” before launching into a reasoned and reflective explanation of the results.
