Rabble-rousing documentarian Michael Moore has been front and center in the Occupy Wall Street movement for quite some time, and recently, has fended off some shots for being among the 1% himself. During an appearance at Occupy Portland, a conservative blogger harangued Moore about his net worth, and was ignored, had his shot blocked, and was “shoved in the stomach” for his trouble.

One of the more bizarre but inevitable side effects of the Occupy Wall Street movement has been the blossoming of celebrity in otherwise barren Zuccotti Park, and, ironically, no greater personality has risen out of the movement than Community Affairs Detective Rick Lee, the “Hipster Cop.” Lee has been profiled in the New York Times and the Washington Post, and today graces the digital pages of GQ in an exclusive interview. But having ruffled the feathers from the more suspicious members of the movement, how does Lee come out, politically, from the fruits of his newfound fame?

As 2010 draws to a close, it’s time to take stock of the year that was, and since we in the White House press corps might not have him around much longer, I think it’s important to look back on Year Two of Press Secretary Robert Gibbs‘ tenure. While it was a bumpy year for the Obama administration, Gibbs was out there every day, taking the heat and giving some back. As a fourth-row witness to Gibbs’ tumultuous year, here are my selections for the Top Ten Robert Gibbs Moments of 2010.

At today’s White House briefing, Press Secretary Robert Gibbs was generously given the opportunity to apologize to outgoing BP CEO Tony Hayward for criticism the administration leveled at Hayward’s May comments about the size of the spill relative to the ocean. While Republican Joe Barton was quick to volunteer an apology to Hayward for the $20 billion fund to compensate for oil spill damages, Gibbs wasn’t in such a contrite mood. While his predecessor, Tony Hayward tried to clear his image in America in his first interview since announcing his departure from the company, incoming BP CEO Bob Dudley wet his feet in the American media pool last night in an interview with Greta Van Susteren, where he expressed optimism in the clean-up operation and the belief that the open well is now probably capped permanently.

In the United States, outgoing BP CEO Tony Hayward is, at best, a national joke, and at worst, an incompetent, deliberately heartless oil baron who deserves not an ounce of sympathy. In the UK, people buy him drinks when they see him in nightclubs and greet him with standing ovations. In his first interview since announcing his departure, Hayward tells the Wall Street Journal that the difference in image is due to his demonization in the American media.

This morning, BP confirmed rumors that it would be handing off the leadership of the Gulf oil disaster cleanup to Managing Director Bob Dudley from CEO Tony Hayward, who turned out not to be so much of a “people person.” Within a matter of hours, two cleanup workers were reported dead and the containment cap partially subduing the gusher was knocked off by a robot submarine. Not the best first day on the job, by far.

Rahm Emanuel is Jake Tapper‘s guest this morning on This Week and he started off with a (predictable) Rahm-bo bang. Tapper began the interview asking Emanuel for his reaction to yesterday’s pictures of BP CEO Tony Hayward yachting in the “clean waters” off the Isle of Wight yesterday, said Rahm: “Well, to quote Tony Hayward, he’s got his life back, as he would say.”

Rep. Joe Barton wasn’t the only member of Congress uncomfortable with the government agreeing with BP to put $20 billion into an escrow fund for claims of the victims of the BP oil disaster. Congresswoman Michele Bachmann expressed some concern with the account also, calling for BP not to be the government’s “chumps” and warning about federal overreach. She visited Bill O’Reilly last night, who did not sympathize with Bachmann or BP in the least.

Texas Congressman Joe Barton‘s apology to BP– and apology for his apology to BP– somehow managed to be the most egregious statement in an event that featured five hours of BP CEO Tony Hayward speaking. And after being scolded by mostly everyone in both the media and his home turf of politics, Fox News analyst Charles Krauthammer gave him an award for his achievement: the Most Politically Stupid Statement of the Year award.

As convenient and tempting as it is to blame BP CEO Tony Hayward exclusively for the corporation’s reputation as a needlessly cruel money-making machine, here’s more proof that Hayward may actually be one of the better ones: a BP spokesman described Hayward’s pleasant little field trip to the Isle of Wight to watch his yacht, Bob, at a race as “well-earned private time.”

BP CEO Tony Hayward really, really wanted his life back, and now that he has it, he’s making the most of it on the Isle of Wight, where he is attending a yachting event to watch his boat “Bob” race across the clean, crystalline waters of Europe. Remember when it was possible to “yacht” around in the Gulf of Mexico?

BP Chairman Carl-Henric Svanberg said today in an interview that BP CEO Tony Hayward would be handing over day-to-day gulf clean-up duties to Managing Director Bob Dudley.

Looks like Tony gets his life back!
