Glenn Beck: Obama Is Like ‘A Real Housewife…At A Louis Vuitton Sample Sale’

Glenn Beck: Obama Is Like 'A Real Housewife...At A Louis Vuitton Sample Sale'

your moment of glenn Not to be left out of the Super Bowl advertising controversy, or really, lack thereof, Glenn Beck opened his show today with a quick review of two of last night's most talked-about ads. Namely, Tim Tebow and Betty White. Beck mocked NOW's "outrage" over the Tim Tebow ad -- they apparently think Tebow tackling his mother glorifies violence against women. Which yes, seem like a bit of misplacement of resources. Beck followed up by wondering where was the outrage over Betty White's ad?! Says Beck: "It's not just violence against women, it's violence again old women! Why the hate from NOW?" Or ball-busting ones, depending. (more...)

Arianna Huffington Continues To Be Incited By Glenn Beck

Arianna Huffington Continues To Be Incited By Glenn Beck

video Is Arianna Huffington vs. Glenn Beck the new Keith Olbermann vs. Bill O'Reilly, or perhaps even the new Andrew Breitbart vs. Media Matters (and a whole bunch of other people depending on the day and the Twitter)? Huffington is certainly taking advantage of every available opportunity to direct attention to what she describes as Beck's "dangerous" language. This Sunday on Reliable Sources Huffington described Beck to host Howie Kurtz and fellow panelist Hugh Hewitt thusly: (more...)

Glenn Beck: Arianna Huffington Is “Media Matters After A Couple Of Drinks” (UPDATED)

Glenn Beck: Arianna Huffington Is "Media Matters After A Couple Of Drinks" (UPDATED)

your moment of glenn Glenn Beck may want to consider some sort of future career as a professor...he's very good with the pointer stick. Beck set aside a segment of tonight's show to specifically address the remarks Arianna Huffington made to Roger Ailes on this Sunday's This Week. (Actually he began with a fun lesson ratings: "how can you kill something that's already dead?" SNAP). During the panel segment of This Week Huffington decried the language Beck uses on his show and asked Ailes whether he isn't “concerned about the language that Glenn Beck is using, which is, after all, inciting the American people?” (Short answer: no.) One of the phrases that particularly bothered Huffington -- "slaughtered" which she seems to understand as the slaughtering of actual people -- came from this quote from Beck from a show that aired back in November. Glenn Beck: Who Cares! Dem Supermajority Was Useless Anyway

Glenn Beck: Who Cares! Dem Supermajority Was Useless Anyway

Your Moment Of Glenn Glenn Beck made a good point on last night's show about the state of Obama's majority in Congress, how the Dem supermajority (also known as the Republicans "under my Grandma's sink") has been useless thus far, and the tyranny of the filibuster, and he did it with magnets. A little bit like Schoolhouse Rock (Glennhouse Rock?) but without the catchy tune. The point in short (and Beck is not the first to make this) is that the Dems currently have a majority in both the House and the Senate -- what they lost with the Scott Brown election last week was a supermajority, which in a perfect world would have enabled them to not only beat a filibuster, but pass anything they wanted. Something which obviously did not happen. You may recall this from Obama's State of the Union the other night: (more...)

This Might Be The Best Fifteen Minutes Of Glenn Beck Ever

This Might Be The Best Fifteen Minutes Of Glenn Beck Ever

your moment of glenn In case you're wondering why so many people watch Glenn Beck watch this. This is Beck at his most...entertaining. Beck opened tonight's show with what can only be described as a tour-de-force excoriation of yesterday's Joe Klein article accusing Americans of being dumb. Fifteen minutes worth. It was, to put it plainly, brilliant theater. A cast of thousands with Beck playing all the parts. (more...)

Your Moment Of Glenn: Were The Beatles Secret Maoists?

Your Moment Of Glenn: Were The Beatles Secret Maoists?

video Glenn Beck is really very determined to make Progressives the new political four-letter word. Just wait, come this November's midterms middle-of-the-road pols will be swearing off the label with the same sort of ferocity they used to repel the term 'liberal' in the 1990's. To that end (I think), Beck spent part of today's show speculating that even John Lennon and the Beatles were Mao defenders (Mao has slowly evolved into the Kevin Bacon of Beck's world view: everyone is connected to him by one degree or another). Glenn Beck Wonders Whether Obama Made ‘Sweet Love To My Wife’

Glenn Beck Wonders Whether Obama Made 'Sweet Love To My Wife'

Your Moment Of Glenn So along with the Republican base in Massachusetts (no longer an oxymoron!) Glenn Beck has clearly been energized by Tuesday's election of Scott Brown. Perhaps a bit too much. I had to listen to this twice to make sure I'd heard it right, but yes Glenn Beck actually says the only place President Obama hasn't been this last year is in Beck's bed "making sweet love" to his wife (he thinks). That was someone else.

Yes I felt so detached from Washington, it's like where's Waldo? Where's Obama? Can I get a picture of him from time to time....There were 158 Obama interviews in the last year, 411 speeches, comments and statements during his first year. I mean how much touch do you think we need from him. I mean, you know what if we could have just seen him without his shirt on...or maybe just and occasional photo of him with his wife...okay we got that too! We just didn't see him enough? HE WAS EVERYWHERE. The only place he didn't show up in was my bedroom to personally talk to my wife and make sweet love to her. At least I don't think that he did. I'm pretty sure that was John Edwards doing that, I'm not sure yet because so far John Edwards is still denying it.
Yep. One wonders if this also qualifies as the sort of remark which would land Beck's parts in various places around his house, courtesy of his wife. Video below.

Your Moment Of Glenn: Beck (And Obama) Celebrate Their First Anniversary

Your Moment Of Glenn: Beck (And Obama) Celebrate Their First Anniversary

video Today marks Glenn Beck's first anniversary at Fox News (fellow anchors offer their congratulations below) something he almost shares with President Obama who was inaugurated a year ago tomorrow. Strange bedfellows to be sure, nonetheless is there anyone out there better able to answer the question -- admittedly very differently -- 'what a difference a year makes' than Glenn Beck and Barack Obama? Likely not. (Also, no one would probably describe Obama as a "polar bear-human hybrid.") (more...)

Your Moment Of Glenn: Dems Will Likely Cheat To Get A Coakley Win

Your Moment Of Glenn: Dems Will Likely Cheat To Get A Coakley Win

video After two weeks of more or less ignoring the news of the day, Glenn Beck has jumped (with a chalk board vengeance) into the headline-making special Senate race in Massachusetts between Martha Coakely and Scott Brown. Beck is comparing tomorrow's vote, which by all accounts is going to be a close one, to that of Bush v. Gore. (more...)

Your Moment Of Glenn: Beck Hosts A Sarah Palin Infomercial

Your Moment Of Glenn: Beck Hosts A Sarah Palin Infomercial

video Well if this is the future of the Republican party I am bored. Phew. Who knew sticking Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin in the same room could be such a snoozefest. I'm not sure why I was expecting Glenn Beck to actually ask Sarah Palin direct questions (or even one) or, say, apply some of the stringent vetting he likes to subject the White House to to the former Governor of Alaska. Or just, say, look Sarah Palin in the eye and simply as "why as a voter should I believe you?" JOKE IS ON ME. (more...)

Your Moment Of Glenn: Beck Serves Up His New American Pie (Literally)

Your Moment Of Glenn: Beck Serves Up His New American Pie (Literally)

video Alas, it's slowly becoming clear that Glenn Beck may no longer be interested in using his nightly show to address the immediate concerns of the day. In the two weeks plus since the attempted bombing of Flight 253 Beck has yet to address it directly, or even mention any of President Obama's statements on the matter (or in the beginning, the lack thereof). Instead, last week Beck spent his time re-fact checking his own show in response to Media Matters naming him the 'mis-informer of the year', and yesterday's show was largely devoted to comparing Obama to Hugo Chavez. (more...)

Everyone Is Talking About Terrorism But Glenn Beck

Everyone Is Talking About Terrorism But Glenn Beck

video Maybe Glenn Beck made a New Year's resolution not to read the news. Beck was led into his hour by President Obama's press conference, during which Obama admitted that the government missed the signs leading up to the Christmas bombing, which is practically the equivalent of the President sending Beck a belated specially gift-wrapped present with a big Mao bow on top. Instead, Beck continued on his merry fact-checking way today and opted to discuss the economy and why the government is truly comprised of socialists (and yes he is live this week). Glenn Beck is perhaps less interested in terrorists than he is in proving himself right? I have no idea, but it is certainly bizarre that he is opting out of this fiery news cycle in order to air a series that could easily run at some future date. (more...)

Your Moment Of Glenn: Beck Fact-Checks His Own ‘Misinformation’

Your Moment Of Glenn: Beck Fact-Checks His Own 'Misinformation'

video Wow. So I assumed that after nearly two weeks away from his television show -- a period of time during which there was an attempted bombing of a commercial jet liner, and the subsequent fallout revealed a national security system that was entirely lacking, AND this happened on Obama's watch -- that Glenn Beck would spend a significant chunk of today's show in some sort of apoplectic tirade about all of the above and then probably throw some 'refounding' and 9/12-ing in for good measure. Boy was I wrong. (more...)

Your Moment Of Glenn: Beck Goes Bubbly Over Michael Bublé

Your Moment Of Glenn: Beck Goes Bubbly Over Michael Bublé

video Anyone who greeted with skepticism the idea that Glenn Beck is positioning himself to be the next Oprah Winfrey for a newly politicized nation need only watch this week's shows for further proof of the thesis. On both yesterday and today's shows (and maybe the rest of this week?) Beck has been doing a sort of Beckian version of Oprah's favorite things. On Monday Beck welcomed some of his favorite authors (and heavily promoted their books) and today Beck spent the entire hour (the entire hour) talking to singer Michael Bublé. Beck and Bublé, who are apparently great fans of each other (bromance!), discussed such Oprah-esque topics as Bublé's love life, his plans for children (or lack thereof), and whether "real" men cry. Actually, it was sort of a charming (if slightly weird) hour...no chalkboard! Glenn Beck is good at this. Really. Also, how many daytime-ish talk shows involve men talking to men, I think Beck may have found a niche...another one. Video below.

Your Moment Of Glenn: If Ben Franklin Didn’t Want Gov. Health Care How Dare We

Your Moment Of Glenn: If Ben Franklin Didn't Want Gov. Health Care How Dare We

Two moments of Glenn today, both from yesterday's show. One that makes reasonable sense. One that really just doesn't. The latter first. In his ongoing campaign against health care reform Glenn Beck pulled a new rationale out of his hat last night: Ben Franklin did not demand health care during the writing of the Constitution -- even though he was in great pain due to kidney stones, even though he had already founded a public hospital in Philadelphia. So if Benjamin Franklin did not write public health care in to the Constitution 230 years ago HOW DARE WE? (more...)

Fox Asks Glenn Beck To Clarify His ‘Passion’ For Gold

Fox Asks Glenn Beck To Clarify His 'Passion' For Gold

Are Glenn Beck's gold-digging days coming to an end? It would seem even Fox News is losing patience with the questions over Beck's status as paid spokesman for Goldline International, which sells gold coins, and his habit of devoting time on his show to expounding on why gold is a good investment (video below). Pot To Kettle: Beck Accuses Copenhagen Of ‘Fear Mongering’

Pot To Kettle: Beck Accuses Copenhagen Of 'Fear Mongering'

video Ahead of premiering his new show Stossel on FBN last night, John Stossel stopped by Glenn Beck to talk Climategate and the summit in Copenhagen where "they are going to fix the planet." Strangely, Beck didn't have much to say about President Obama's Nobel Prize speech last night beyond the fact that "if he were consistent he would just give all that prize money to the government, pay it all to the IRS because AmeriCorp is such a good charity." (Perhaps Obama should consider investing it in gold!) Mainly I imagine because when there is nothing bad to say, Beck opts to say nothing much. (more...)

Your Moment Of Glenn: Beck Compares Dems To Used Car Salesmen

Your Moment Of Glenn: Beck Compares Dems To Used Car Salesmen

video You know if Glenn Beck was the one selling the health care plan I'm fairly certain it would be a done deal, in and out, likity split. Of course, we have not yet fully moved into Bizarro world (though, feels like we are awfully close some times) and therefore we only get to witness Beck's superhero salesman-like ability when he is complaining about something on his nightly show. (more...)

Your Moment Of Glenn: A Christmas Sweater Odyssey

Your Moment Of Glenn: A Christmas Sweater Odyssey

video Glenn Beck took the night off his show last night so he could host a live Christmas Sweater event at NYU's Skirball Center. The Christmas Sweater, for the uninitiated, is Beck's bestselling novel about "love, faith and family" that he has since turned into a Broadway-type show during which he explains the events that inspired the book. Your Moment Of Glenn: Beck Recites A Charlie Brown Christmas

Your Moment Of Glenn: Beck Recites A Charlie Brown Christmas

video While the President's address on Afghanistan may be preempting A Charlie Brown Christmas tonight, never fear! Glenn Beck to the rescue. Says Beck: "Maybe tonight we shouldn't preempt Charlie Brown's Christmas, maybe tonight we should try to put everything back in its rightful place and listen to a message that actually means something." Your Moment Of Glenn: Dubai Make U.S. Look ‘Amish’

Your Moment Of Glenn: Dubai Make U.S. Look 'Amish'

video Amidst the spectacle of Tiger Woods' car crash and the Salahi's White House party crash, was the equally spectacular (and arguably more important) story of the Dubai economy crash. For those of you interested in a detailed, business-minded background on what went on and what didn't, Andrew Ross Sorkin has penned this piece in the New York Times For those of you interested in the shorter, slightly more spectacular view, there is Glenn Beck. (more...)

Your Moment Of Glenn: Beck’s Plan To Bury The Two-Party System

Your Moment Of Glenn: Beck's Plan To Bury The Two-Party System

video One of the tenets of Glenn Beck's 100 Year plan for America essentially has to do with getting rid of the two-party system. What he wants to replace the current two-party system with is less clear -- Beck is not a fan of socialism in any form so I have to assume he'd be turned off by the parliamentary system, which more easily allows for multiple parties. He's also said "we need to think like China," though I'm fairly certain by that he does not mean we need a Chinese-like government. (more...)

Your Moment Of Glenn: Only Fiction Writers Know The Truth

Your Moment Of Glenn: Only Fiction Writers Know The Truth

video A few weeks back the New York Times did a feature on how Glenn Beck was the best thing to happen to book publishing since Oprah Winfrey (and maybe the only good thing considering today's announcement), particularly when it comes to espionage thrillers. (more...)

Glenn Beck Is His Own Best Critic

Glenn Beck Is His Own Best Critic

video Let no one accuse Glenn Beck of not having a sense of humor. As predicted, Beck took some time last night to highlight his sort of starring turn on South Park last week (Cartmen discovers a socialist regime at South Park elementary): "You haven't lived until South Park has done an entire episode on you...Last week Eric Cartman played a much thinner version of me." But he didn't stop there! Jon Stewart's Beck impression warranted a hat's off: "Congratulations Jon, very funny stuff." The New Yorker, SNL, and Playboy -- where you will find him "between the cheeks and the nipples" -- also received honorable mentions. Video below:

Your Moment Of Glenn: ‘It’s Like The Government Is Roman Polanski…’

Your Moment Of Glenn: 'It's Like The Government Is Roman Polanski...'

video To begin, a side note: My big takeaway from the Oprah Winfrey, Sarah Palin interview was that I wish Oprah would have shown a tiny bit of the sort of ferocity Glenn Beck routinely shows towards his subjects (sans the chalkboard) towards Palin than she did (she showed none). Maybe she needed a purple squad! (more...)

Your Moment Of Glenn: Beck’s ‘Extreme’ Return

Your Moment Of Glenn: Beck's 'Extreme' Return

video Well, having his appendix removed last week definitely didn't dull Glenn Beck's propensity for incendiary opening segments (though he does look a bit trimmer). Beck was on a tear tonight, about a number of things including who the media chooses to label extremists and who they don't. Namely alleged Ft. Hood shooter Nadil Hasan, whom Beck more or less verbally tried and convicted in the first ten minutes of his show. Apparently Beck has only taken the "speedy" part of the 6th Amendment to heart in this case, due process is perhaps a luxury for others. (more...)

Your (Makeshift) Moment Of Glenn: Commenting On Another #1

exclusive

"A few years ago I told my wife that I'd trade a major organ just to hit #1 on four different lists. All in all I still think it was a pretty fair trade."

Your Moment Of Glenn: Let’s Make A Deal! (With Radicals)

Your Moment Of Glenn: Let's Make A Deal! (With Radicals)

video America, you would be forgiven for sometimes drawing the conclusion that Glenn Beck is in fact the host of some strange game show, particularly if you've ever watched him with the sound off. The other week on Mediaite Office Hours, Katie Couric referred to Beck as a "big showman” and boy was that P.T. Barnum side (or perhaps in this case, Monty Hall) on display today. For those of you who missed it, Beck spent the first half of the hour teasing what he had hidden behind the blue curtain. (more...)

Your Moment Of Glenn: ‘We Are Raising A Generation Of Would-Be Killers’

Your Moment Of Glenn: 'We Are Raising A Generation Of Would-Be Killers'

video On today's (long) opener Glenn Beck (doing his best Clark Kent impression) rendered his own particular version of the age-old "kids these days" tirade. Kids these days are pro-Obama health care: "Like, dude, why would you be against free health care...it's, like, free pot and stuff." Kids these days are a generation of "would-be killers" in the making. Kids these days have been mislead to believe they deserve to win whether or not they play (which is sort of true). They hate their grand-mothers. And somehow American Idol and Simon Cowell are either responsible for much of this and/or are benefiting from it (also, the Fox network). It's the return of the "me generation" and be warned America, "radicals will seize this opportunity."

Your Moment Of Glenn: We Think Glenn Beck Should Host SNL

Your Moment Of Glenn: We Think Glenn Beck Should Host SNL

video Someone at 30 Rock needs to approach Glenn Beck and ask him to host SNL, pronto. They could use Beck's opener today in lieu of an audition tape. The White House's decision to treat Fox News as an opponent might just be the best gift Beck has ever received; between the red phone on set, the grip whose job it is to sit beside it in case the White House calls, the chalkboard, and Beck's impressions, his opener this evening may have been the best 20 minutes of television you'll see all day. In the 45 second clip below, Beck channels Shakespeare, Keith Olbermann, Chris Matthews, and Fred Armisen as President Obama. Oh yes, and Liberals (also, Cat Stevens). If that's not a repertoire worthy of SNL I'm not sure what is. How long before the White House regrets calling out Fox is another matter, in the meantime we're probably in for some good television. Fox News Talks About The Big Story Of The Day: Fox News

video Fox News has found a good reason to keep talking about Fox news - they've got an escalating feud with the White House. And no amount of awkwardness is going to stop them from covering themselves. It started with a news report by James Rosen this afternoon, continued with Neil Cavuto and was followed by Glenn Beck. Here's a look at the self-coverage: (more...)

Your Moment Of Glenn: ‘Fox News Is The Alamo For Truth!’

Your Moment Of Glenn: 'Fox News Is The Alamo For Truth!'

video There's been a lot of chatter from the wings about Glenn Beck of late, and plenty of name-calling from certain quarters. But Beck is aiming to clear up any confusion: he is neither a journalist nor a rodeo clown. He is a dad and "he is doing what he believes is right." Furthermore he is doing a "job as a private citizen"...with a multi-million dollar cable TV contract no less(!) who just wants real journalists to look into these things instead of "looking into my past." Stop trying to do a Van Jones on Glenn Beck, world. FOX NEWS IS THE ALAMO FOR TRUTH. And that folks is why Glenn Beck is such a success, because of lines like that. Later on (the clip has been edited into two parts) he reiterates that he is "just a dad doing this for my kids." Cue, 'I believe the children are our future.' (more...)

Your Moment Of Glenn: Beck Goes After Jarrett, Instructs NYT To Take Notes

Your Moment Of Glenn: Beck Goes After Jarrett, Instructs NYT To Take Notes

video Sometimes it seems like Glenn Beck closes his eyes throws a dart at the White House staff list and voila! He has his next target. Or maybe he's just looked at his ratings and decided he's got the clout to play in the big leagues. Either way, looks like senior adviser Valerie Jarrett is the latest to step into Beck's direct line of fire...more commonly known as his chalkboard. (more...)

Your Moment Of Glenn: BECK IS NOT A FROG KILLER

Your Moment Of Glenn: BECK IS NOT A FROG KILLER

video In case you were taken in by Glenn Beck's boiling frog stunt yesterday, in which Beck threw a seemingly live frog into boiling water to prove a point about...something, don't worry! It was a fake frog. But not fake enough, apparently -- Beck felt compelled to spend a segment on today's show clearing up the misconception. Just for the record: it was a rubber frog, the earlier shot of him grabbing a live one had been pre-taped, the media is stupid and predictable, etc. (Says Salon's Mike Madden: "A tip for @glennbeck if he wants me to keep watching: less talk about how the media hates him; more talk about crazy conspiracy theories.") The best part? PETA loves Glenn Beck! They were not fooled for an instant by the stunt, in part because they know Beck to be a "kind man." Watch the segment below. (more...)

Your Moment Of Glenn: Van Jones Resignation Is Not A Victory

Your Moment Of Glenn: Van Jones Resignation Is Not A Victory

video If you were expecting Glenn Beck to gloat over Van Jones' weekend resignation you may be waiting for a while: "I am not the one to congratulate," says Beck. So who is? You, the viewer, that's who! And, if you were waiting to see who his next target is, the answer (for the time being, anyway) is...Van Jones! Who now may be more dangerous outside the White House than in, according to Beck. Also, the mainstream media who didn't begin covering the story until this weekend (he does sort of have a point, there). On the whole, Beck's response is strikingly subdued -- Beck is nothing if not an excellent entertainer and he is a genius at knowing how to keep his audience coming back for more. (more...)

Your Moment of Glenn: Beck Fulfills His Gazillion Dollar Contract At Great Personal Risk!

video Watching Glenn Beck these days is a bit like witnessing Evel Knievel being reborn as a cable TV host: you simply cannot take your eyes off his increasingly crazy stunts, and you know at some point there is going to be a spectacular fail, which you do not want to miss. I admit that over the past few weeks I've become a regular watcher. In case you don't have time for the magic, we here at Mediaite are happy to provide you with a new, Daily Show inspired feature we like to call 'Your Moment of Glenn.' (more...)
