Boehner: I Joke With Obama About “Our Skin Color”

video

House Minority Leader John Boehner visited Sean Hannity last night to discuss his party’s plight to takeover Congress. The representative, whose orange-complected visage is often joked about, revealed the nature of his relationship with President Obama, saying, “We talk about golf, we’ll talk about our skin color. We have a nice relationship.”

While we can only imagine what it is that Boehner says to Obama about ‘their’ skin color, the Republican did give us a nugget of the commander-in-chief’s side of the conversation. When Hannity asked, high school principal-style, if the Republican congressional leader and the President “smoke cigarettes together,” Boehner replied:

No, we don’t. But first thing that happens is, I come in and he’ll say, ‘Boehner, you are almost as dark as me.’

Afterward, the two men shifted their discussion to “first black presidentBill Clinton, and, needless to say, Boehner had few kind words for the previous Democratic president. For more, watch the clip from Fox News’ Hannity:

Hey, Boehner is the minority leader in the House. Well, at least for a few more weeks. Then he won’t be a minority any more.

This is exactly why this whole game is so annoying to me. We all line with our stupid teams and then flame on each other over the political players we root for. But deep down, they know this is a joke. Boehner comes out and gives voice to the notion that the President is so dangerous. But behind closed doors they are friends. Half the people on here will go on stupid rants about how Obama is some sort of closet Marxist destroyign America. If Boehner realy believed this, he would not be so chummy with the guy.

So he’ll become the majority leader. And when all is done, nothing will get fixed.

The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.

I hate to point out the obvious, but it is possible to like someone personally but also to think that their politics are dangerous and misguided. Of course, the Left might not realize that since their response to anyone who disagrees with them on the issues is personal attacks and ridicule. As can be seen by the very attacks launched by the left on Boehner himself.

Is there even a remote chance that you saw irony in this statement when you made it?

None. All he does here is insult people and ridicule anyone to the left of extreme right. The irony is lost on him.

When you post something intelligent is when I start paying attention to your opinions. I suspect I will be waiting for a long, long, long, long time.

Are you talking about Boehner? Because if you watch the clip he said Obama brings it up. The headline is a little misleading. He said Obama teases him about being almost as dark as Obama.

  • dcmediasux

having few kind words for the previous Democratic president is another bonding point for these two.

“While we can only imagine what it is that Boehner says to Obama about ‘their’ skin color . . .”

What the hell does this line mean? Are you accusing Boehner of being a racist? This is just asinine. Explain yourself.

  • avoidswork

    Hey! Boehner’s a minority, too!

He’s the aggrieved well-off, white, Christian that we’ve all been hearing about. Oh, the woes! (do you recall how upset he was over a tax to be added to tanning salons?! Sob!)

He’s also orange, another “minority” skin color.

  • Yoda002

I wonder if he’s discussing skin color during tee time with his big donor lobbyists?

Why do republicans feel the need to spray tan themselves?

You simply MUST be talking into the mirror. You wouldn’t know a fact if it hit you in face. It’s impossible to debate you — not that I care to waste my time — but your posts are just empty-headed rants and insults with no substance or backing. One might as well try to debate a crying baby or raving nutcase. Just look at the responses you make to other posters. You think by calling someone a name and dishing out an insult that you have issued some profound policy statement. But people can see that you are operating at an infantile level of discourse without any deep grasp of the issues.

Felix, have you not listened to Rush Limbaugh since the election? Limbaugh has been the lead in personal attacks. His attacks on Obama’s family, his looks, and things that are not policy are some of the more disgusting I have heard. Note, I do not say that about Beck or Hannity.

You make a reasonable point. I grant you that Limbaugh engages in too many character attacks, and it hurts his credibility. But I don’t think the same can be said for Beck or O’Reilly, who tend to be focused primarily on issues and principles. The problem on the left is that its leading pundits — Olbermann, Stewart, Maher, Maddow, Colbert — are now approaching a saturation point in which leftwing commentary is 95% character attacks and ridicule. This is part of the culture of the left nowadays, almost an implicit attitude of what it means to be progressive (i.e., to laugh at everybody else). I assure you that this will backfire, especially now that the Left is not just laughing at Bush and Palin, but at anyone who wants responsible government and fiscal accountability in D.C.

Kinda sad that political rivals in the highest offices and with the most reason to want to squash one another have better relationships and discourse than people of opposing opinions out here in cyberspace and in the real world.

Even more sad that politicians use and encourage that huge public divide to further their own agendas instead of trying to reconcile this country. I think we’ve passed the point of their ever working together for the good of the country again.

Unless they decide to regulate the volume of radio commercials, too.

It’ll depend heavily on the outcome of this election. If the public rewards the bad behavior of the minority party by making them a majority party, then the cycle will continue. If they don’t reward them though then it’s possible, slim but possible, they might finally get the message on at least one side that they need to start providing substance rather than division.

But I don’t have that much faith in the general population to see through the smoke screen.

  • Nachi

Nothing funny about Boehner. He needs to be eradicated – like so many others.

  • eingriff

If Boehner will just glom on to a sample of Obama’s epithelials, I can ascertain whether that warm, mahogany complexion comes from a black Luo tribesman or a predominantly Polynesian wahine. Review CSI episodes to prepare. If he could pass the manila test, he could ingratiate himself into Afro-American sassiaty.
