CNN Apologizes: Hillary Clinton ‘Was Not Laughing’ About Benghazi

CNN’s Ashleigh Banfield was forced to admit a “mistake” at the tail end of her show Monday morning after a video edit on the network made it seem as though Hillary Clinton just might be laughing about the deaths of four Americans in Benghazi, Libya. The former secretary of state was actually laughing about her plans for 2016.

During the report about Clinton’s remarks at today’s National Automobile Dealers Association convention in New Orleans, CNN juxtaposed her solemn remark that her “biggest regret is what happened in Benghazi” with a completely separate question about her plans to run for president, which she laughed off and declined to answer.

“I want to be real clear here,” Banfield said immediately after the pair of clips aired. “Those were two separate sound bites that we tried to get to you as quickly as possible, what we call tape turns. One was about Benghazi and another that was completely separate and a different time was about her thoughts about about 2016.”

“That was our mistake,” she added. “Let’s be very clear. The secretary of state was not laughing about the previous comments about Benghazi.”
