CNN International Exec: ‘No Editorial Justification’ for Showing ISIS Video

CNN and CNN International are not showing the latest ISIS video, depicting a Jordanian pilot being burned alive. Both Fox News and TheBlaze, however, featured the video online, with Fox even going so far as to show a still image on TV last night.

Yesterday, before Fox and TheBlaze made those calls, CNN International executive Tony Maddox explained the rationale behind not showing the images in a CNNI interview. He said the network would never show hostages “at the point of death” because there’s “absolutely no editorial justification” for doing such a thing.

He said ISIS wants more people to see it, for one, and the brutality can be conveyed without showing it directly to the audience. Sometimes, he admits, you have to show still frames from ISIS videos to frame the report somewhat, but showing any images of a man being burned alive just goes too far.
