Dan Abrams Talks Charlie Sheen On Today: “You’re Allowed To Be Naked, You’re Allowed To Be Drunk”

Dan AbramsHave you been tossing and turning at night, wondering what Mediaite founder and NBC Chief Legal Analyst Dan Abrams might have to say about Charlie Sheen‘s latest bad behavior? If so, you’re in for a treat—Abrams appeared on the Today Show this morning, where he weighed in what might be next for the troubled actor.

As the New York Post reported Tuesday, early that morning the Two and a Half Men star allegedly trashed his room at New York’s Plaza Hotel while in a drunken rage. Hotel security found him naked and belligerent, accompanied by a naked woman who may have been a prostitute. Altogether, the highest-paid actor in TV comedy—Sheen earns $1.8 million for each episode of Men—is believed to have caused about $7,000 worth of damage. Sheen’s publicist told the media that his client’s behavior was the result of “an adverse allergic reaction to some medication” rather than alcohol and cocaine, as the Post reported.

Despite these sordid details, though, Abrams told Meredith Vieira that authorities will need more evidence of wrongdoing if they wish to bring legal action against Sheen. “You’re allowed to be naked, you’re allowed to be drunk, and you’re allowed to be with a naked woman in your hotel room,” he explained. Sheen will need to pay for the damage he caused, continued Abrams, but otherwise, his rampage doesn’t constitute a crime.

Watch Abrams and his fellow guest, psychologist and drug expert Dr. Julie Holland, in the Today clip below.

you’re allowed to be naked, you’re allowed to be drunk, and you’re allowed to be with a naked woman in your hotel room,” he explained. ”

He went to law school to learn that?

    Wow!

Well, according to my neighbor, it’s definately legal. Unfortunately for him, once you start throwing things at your neighbors, it stops being legal. That’s why he’s drying out in the psych ward. Hey Ted, maybe you know him!

I don’t know, notsofast, I’m fairly convinced King is actually Keith Olberdork. That condescending, “i’m smarter that EVERYONE” attitude is a dead giveaway!

Who knew that destruction of property and disturbing the peace aren’t crimes.

Actually, this is what law school is primarily about.

I think if I earned $1.8M an episode, you might find me drunk and naked in a hotel room, once or twice, too.

Too bad he can’t get his sh*t together… I think it’s time to end Two and a half men, and try rehab.

“his rampage doesn’t constitute a crime.”

Willful destruction of private property does constitute a crime.

And yet he was brought to a psych ward.

actually I didn’t say that his rampage does not constitute a crime so VRWC is right in the comment. What I did say was that in a case like this, they would need someone to make a complaint. . . the hotel, the woman someone who would serve as the key witnesses. . in order to have a criminal case. It appears that they do not have that.

So, if he was not Charlie, did not have piles of cash, and a get out of jail card , it is likely that he would face a complaint from the woman, or more likely the Hotel? Dan, why would the Hotel not be forced to make the complaint in a case like this. I suppose that one cannot force a complaint, but using another scenario, where a domestic disturbance is called in, although the complainant does not want to press charges, the cops do arrest regardless and dismiss the need to have a cooperative witness. In other words, there is the assumption and they let it play out through the system. This had all of the same attached circumstances, and if the woman placed the call to the lobby, upon discovering that there was a threat, could not the assumption be extended here?

I do not think that hotels that cater to very wealthy people call the police that often on their 3K a night guests, if they can help it. The outrage is that he was taken in for a psych evaluation because he was drunk and naked. This same shit happened to Noah.

He’ll probably get the Lindsay Lohan treatment.
