So why is this news worthy?

Dave is a comedian, he is allowed to make fat jokes.
South Park has been making fun of fat people for years (Michael Moore, Rob Reiner, Sally Struthers).

So… let’s see, bashing someone who suffers from headaches by suggesting porn, someone getting a divorce and using her a$$ as the punch line (way to knock someone already down) and an overweight public official who somehow would welcome getting attacked by food- because he is fat. Rich material there Dave, very mature.
So in that vein here are some suggestions…

Dear Late-Night script writers:
Can we see an enchilada thrown to Michele O or perhaps french fries? Or a giant gavel thrown at Pelosi, or Joy Behar eating kittens, or a bunch of interns throwing condoms in Letterman’s face, maybe have Obama throwing spare change to the poor as he flies by in AirForce One on his way to the golf course?  

It’s okay to make fat jokes IF you pretend you’re being ironic.

It’s also ok because obesity is perceived to be for the most part a prole affliction, and the people who write Letterman’s jokes are all private school twerps from upper class families.

Liberals are supposed to be compassionate whereas Conservatives are supposed to be chaste.

He’s not nearly as funny as he was 25 years ago. Maybe it’s the context of the culture, but that just wasn’t very funny. It was just mean.

I cannot
believe how many right-wing bund members get so upset about a comedian picking
on Christie; yet have no trouble pointing out Letterman’s not-so-perfect
history. The truth is Christie has a serious problem with saying “no”
to the “cookie”. Christie himself created a situation where he
invites such attacks. The truth is Christie, and his cabal, have no trouble bullying
others when it suits them, but these same mudslingers cannot stand it when
others pick on them. If you cannot stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen!

Letterman is attacking Christie because of the policies he has implemented in New Jersey. However, the people in New Jersey, who pay godawful taxes, support Christie. So, Letterman can’t attack him on the issues, so he does cheap-shot personal attacks.
