David Letterman Makes Light Of Jihadist Threats During Tonight’s Late Show

David Letterman isn’t afraid of your jihadist threats.

Last week, the late-night funny man became the target of jihadists on Shumukh-al-Islam, a website which, according to SITE Intelligence Group, frequently posts messages from Al-Qaeda and their supporters, after he made an ill-received joke wherein he mocked the death of senior Al-Qaeda commander Ilyas Kashmiri by dragging his finger across his neck. “Is there not amongst you a Sayyid Nosair al-Masri (may Allah release him) to cut the tongue of his lowly Jew and shut it for ever,” read one such message, referring with admiration to a man who as been tied to both the 1990 murder of Israel politician and Rabbi Meir Kahane as well as the 1993 World Trade Center bombing.

Lettterman, who is not actually Jewish, seems rather unperturbed, making light of the ire during on tonight’s Late ShowAccording to Gossip Cop, he uses his monologue to thank the audience for acting as a human shield, and to wonder if his insurance policy leaves him covered for Jihad. He then more directly addressing the threats:

“You’re not going to believe what happened. A guy, a radical extremist threatened to cut my tongue out. I wish I had a nickel for every time a guy has threatened …I think the first time was during the Academy Awards.”

And, ultimately, makes a few shots himself:

“And so now, State Department authorities are looking into this. They’re not taking this lightly. They’re looking into it. They’re questioning, they’re interrogating, there’s an electronic trail – but everybody knows it’s Leno.”

The Top Ten segment is also devoted to the threats, featuring “Top Ten Thoughts That Went Through My Mind After Hearing About The Threat,” during which he wonders, “Why is the staff in such a good mood?”

Addressing the threats for the first time since they were made against them, it seems unlikely that Letterman will hold his tongue, or, for that matter, apologize. Death threats, it seems, are just to bountiful fodder for funny.

Meanwhile his ‘ DEPENDS ‘ is working overtime.

Yeah. Their going to sneak up on him one day and cut. They’ll probably cut his heart out (if they can find one) and stick a note on the knife left sticking in his chest. It’ll all be over in a few minutes.

Oh my goodness. Is there still a blanket prohibition against humor and/or grammar in comments?

Why in the world would he ever apologize?

I dare him to do a “top 10″ of Allah.

Enjoy your tongue, Dave, while you still HAVE one.

Invite Salman Rushdie onto your show and ask him how crossing-Islam is going for him.

That would be good, maybe he could a Mohammad imitation as well…

    Dave, show some Muhammad cartoons!

  • Tjmorris01960

Maybe the dude from CT who’s girlfriend left him to cavort with Letterman can pay these   jihadist to do his nasty work. I am ok with that.

Some have difficulty understanding those two elements of conversation…the data is interesting, if not surprising.

Bad move there gap tooth.  These sand naggers don’t play.  I’d grow eyes in the back of my head if I were you.

  • Brer Orabbit

David should pledge himself to nothing; for reflection makes a liar of his resolution.

  • The Real Royal Emperor

My, what a good looking man you are. Very presidential. Have you thought of running?

  • Norbit

Would it be faux pas if we took out insurance on Ole Dave?

NYC, more then any other city in America is the easiest place in America for a Muslim fanatic to go undetected. The Ed Sullivan theatre is also in a very vulnerable location. Nothing wrong with joking about a serious situation, but if I were Letterman, I’d spend a few million dollars of Worldwide Pants’ money and come up with feasable plans to secure his studio.

Some of the comments on this story are sickening… they have more in common with Al Queda than America.

I believe the moniker “teahadist” is appropriate.

  • Anonymous

That’s the spirit. There are so many things to poke fun at with the absurdities of the terrorists and fundamentalists, but so few taking advantage.

  • Anonymous

Sarah Palin and her tea-party goons protesting in front of the Ed Sullivan theater because of an innocent joke are in good company then with these jihadists

The audience is more than an audience, is more like…a ‘Human Shield!’

    Now there’s a beheading I could watch.

then why the fake indignation when dems call you people terrorists? i would suggest to the dems a slight qualifier to the term as to read: violent blood-thirsty terrorists

  • TruDat

And how many Presidents have you lefties attempted to assassinate?

  • Anonymous

what, want a number? do your own damn research. I’ll save you the time, a non-starter of an argument. it’s like you tea-party conservatives calling liberals racist or homophobes. good for laughs but nothing more

  • TruDat

It was a rhetorical question (get out a dictionary).  You violent, rioting, protesting, whinny liberals are really something to behold, calling anyone else terrorist.  You should swallow my pride and apologize.

  • Anonymous

and you just displayed your lack of sense of humor… parallels proving the contention I made earlier keep mounting

  • Anonymous

actually i take it back and apologize.. to terrorists. i do think my comparison is demeaning to terrorists. Most of what we call “terrorists” mostly have legitimate grievances(racism, occupation…etc), they just go about having their grievances addressed the wrong way (violence). Whereas you folks grievance is that there is a black man in the white house.. and you’re just as violent

  • TruDat

I think if you look over some history, even recent history, it’s typically the lefties who protest, damage property, and generally engage is civil disobedience when they don’t get their way.  Conservatives use their vote; hence the 2010 election results where an unprecedented number of congressional and governor seats flipped to Republicans.

  • Vasallese

-I expected nothing less from David. He was the first to go back to work after 9/11 because he did not want the stupid terrorists to keep us prisoners in our own world. They are stupid; They are not even religious. If the terrorists knew anything about their own religion, they would no visit prostitues, they would not smoke, they would not drink alcohol, they WOULD NOT CALL FOR VIOLENCE. David is dismissing those ass-holes as they should be dismissed.
