Oprah To Obama About Birth Certificate: ‘What Took You So Long?’
Birther or not, many people who knew President Obama was born in Hawaii were still a little curious why Obama waited this long to end the craziness surrounding rampant speculation about his birth certificate. Today, Obama’s friend Oprah Winfrey raised that question, asking the President “why did you wait so long” to release the birth certificate?
Obama began to respond to the question of why he waited, suggesting this was an issue that came up a long time ago. Oprah joked, “when it first came up, were you thinking ‘I hope I was born here?'” Obama’s witty response was to say “I was there, so I knew I had been born there – I remembered it.” Audience laughter ensued and Oprah declared that Obama confirmed once again that he was born in the United States.
However, Obama didn’t really provide much explanation in this short clip regarding why the release was made now. It seems as though we will have to wait for details in the full interview when today’s appearance airs in its entirety on May 2.
