‘Facts Are Stubborn Things. They Did Hack Into This Campaign’: John McCain on Russian Hacking
In the wake of recent reports that the CIA has concluded that Russia interfered in the election to help Donald Trump, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) appeared on CBS’s Face the Nation to discuss.
Right off the bat, McCain told host John Dickerson that Russia involved itself in the election via hacking. In response to President-elect Donald Trump dismissing the findings as “ridiculous,” McCain told host John Dickerson that facts say otherwise.
“I don’t know what to make of it,” the Arizona lawmaker stated. “Because it’s clear the Russians interfered. Now whether they intended to interfere to the degree that they were trying to elect a certain candidate, I think that’s a subject of investigation.”
McCain continued, “Facts are stubborn things. They did hack into this campaign.”
The rest of the interview revolved around Russian effectiveness on hacking and the possibility of Senate investigations. Earlier in the day, McCain signed onto a bipartisan statement calling for these reports to be examined.
