Fox News To Conduct “Extended, Exclusive” Interview With Pres. Obama

developing

While Speaker Nancy Pelosi talks “Deem and Pass,” President Barack Obama is going a different route – he’s talking to Fox News.

In an “extended, exclusive” interview tomorrow he will sit down with Special Report anchor Bret Baier to make his health care reform pitch to the FNC audience. What a long, strange trip it’s been.

The interview will air in full at 6pmET tomorrow and will take place earlier in the afternoon. “We welcome the opportunity to sit down with the President and try to get some specifics on the health care legislation,” said Baier in making the announcement right after NoonET today on Fox News.

The history between the White House and Fox News has been a shaky one. In September he went to every major news outlet except Fox for an interview. That started things, and with FNC essentially winning the war it came to a head in late October with a meeting between Robert Gibbs and Michael Clemente. In November Major Garrett sat down with Pres. Obama in a round of interviews.

But now this interview is exclusive – and very meaningful. “It’s been a long time coming,” said Baier.

> Update: From the FNC release:

Baier sits down with President Obama in their first one-on-one interview to discuss the upcoming House vote on health care reform and what to expect in Washington in the weeks ahead.

Steve you beat me to it, What? The President on the Entertainment Network?

I guess even he looks at the ratings.

  • MichelleF

Now wait a sec, according to the white house, Fox isn’t a news channel, so why bother?

  • The Real Royal King

I wouldn’t expect much from this interview. FOX has a long tradition of softball questions to elected officials. Remember Hume’s disgraceful interview of Cheney? Have you seen O’Reilly’s and Hannity’s spines turn to banana when they have a “big guy” around them? I wish Garrett were conducting the interview. Baier can be, paradoxically, a rightist tool and a timid Tedd bear at the same time.

Maybe it is something like Nixon playing “Home on the Range” for Kruschev or Carter being on Paula Deen.

MichelleF, the White House also said, they would go on when they saw fit! Get over yourself!

  • roxsteady

He’ll use them like a piece of toilet paper to cut through all the bullshit they’ve been feeding their viewers Then, their viewers will continue to believe the idiots on fox GOP propaganda. The Repubicans have been raising money off of them by telling them that they will stop this bill. Will the viewers and baggers ask for their money back?

Really? CNN? MSNBC? never does softball interviews? I’m shocked!

“Have you seen O’Reilly’s and Hannity’s spines turn to banana when they have a “big guy” around…..”

Again, really? I just happen to pick part 3. You can pick 1,2,or4.

I don’t know about Hannity since I don’t watch him.

  • puck30

    MSNBC? Softball interviews? Banana Spine?

Ah yes, what a hard hitting interview this was.

Puck: You must understand, saying that FOX conducts softball interviews does not mean MSNBC does not. Saying that CNN serves COSTCO coffee in the newsroom doesn’t mean that FOX serves Starbucks. FOX conducts softball interviews. MSNBC does, as well. In point of fact, I think American “cable” news is among the worst programming in the free world. FOX, CNN and MSNBC all stink in large measure.

  • Bias-Media

    @TRRK

agree to a certain degree. I wouldn’t say they stink. But you left out ABC / CBS / NBC…equally bad. Remember the Brian Williams one-on-one with Obama last year? even the Left were thinking they shared beds…

  • MichelleF

mcf1757, Wow that really hurt! I guess they see fit now because they finally realize no one watches the other networks.

  • Caryson

I read this an just laughed!

The Obama administration took weeks to demonize FNC and they lost.

Then Obama tried to get his MSM news scribes to demonize FNC and they lost!

I read this and just laughed!

The Obama administration took weeks to demonize FNC and they lost.

Then Obama tried to get his MSM news scribes to demonize FNC and they lost!

What happened? More people chose FNC as their news source.

Now that Obama is DESPARATE for any kind of win, he has to deal with FNC.

He knows that he is in trouble and now has to reach the only audience that understands that Obamacare is just a crap sandwich and grovel for their support.

He will lose again and bring his party to defeat in November.

Long live the 1st Amendment!! (Even though Obama hates it)

  • Ted

Being DESPARATE rather than DESPERATE, he is forced to sit with Fox “News” where most viewers are in bed by 7:30 or 8:00. But being DESPARATE for the “win,” he has no choice…he MUST interview with the enemy. But as Glenn Beck says (and a phrase he, I’m sure, takes credit for) keep your friends close but your enema’s closer. And Fox “News” is enema #1. Shame on the MSM news scribes!!!

I hear ya, but I think Baier will do a respectful interview, just like Greta van Susteren would. O’Reilly doesn’t really give any quarter. Two weeks ago he took a stand on Gun Rights and Regulation of Supplements that had me spitting my water out my nose.

Like I’ve said before, I don’t watch Hannity for the same reason I don’t watch Maddow. One does an infomercial for The Republicans, & one does an infomercial for the Democrats.

Say what you want about American cable news but I say if you don’t like that and prefer eruopean or CBC type news & political presentation. We have PBS and C-Span for ya.

I tend to not watch the CBC because it’s controled by the Government. The one outside cable news network I enjoy is……………ready?

    http://rt.com/On_Air.html?gclid=CIKE6LSVuJsCFZJM5Qod5zOfAg

They let everybody on and leave it up to the people to think and decide for themselves. 25 years ago it would not be happening in this place. My, have times changed.

  • mcf1757

MichelleF, not sure it was supposed to hurt. If you think all the voters in American watch Foxnews, your highly mistaken.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jim-Marcrum/1631348004 Jim Marcrum

Obama and Fox, I hope that Bret doesn’t pull his punches after all the bull$hit that Obama has given Fox. This is proof that Obama will do or say anything to get this bag of crap passed. I would be very wary.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jonathan-Henry-Soucek/1522215094 Jonathan Henry Soucek

Bret will soft ball it. The WhiteHouse has bought everyone off so far–This will make or break Bret’s career.

  • puck30

Also let me add this, I don’t think a straight cable news channel would work today. That was Headline news but they had to drop that format.

Somebody on another thread said Dan Rather once stated that “the News Dept. is the lost leader”. Okay, where CBS lost in the News shows, they gained back in their network entertainment shows.

24/7 Cable News doesn’t have that comfort. Therefore Primetime Opinion shows work. CNN started it, once CNN was the king, now it’s FNC that is leading the pack. Who know’s 5 years from now. But a straight 24/7 news channel? You will lose you’re shirt and you’re pants!

And it also gets back to the arguments these crybabies make here. Right now FNC is in the lead, if they don’t like it, quit crying and put together a show that people will watch. Between CNN, HLN & MSNBC they have 504 hours in which to put on a show that will beat FNC in the ratings.

Out of that 504 hours they can’t beat FNC for one? Forget about FNC, what’s that say about CNN, HLN & MSNBC? And how about all these blogs that are anti FNC. You would think with all that energy, all those people. One could come up with one idea, one thought, one hour’s worth of programing that FNC couldn’t touch in the ratings.

    Just One.

  • puck30

Look folks, Brett gona piss some people off. If he tries to rip Obama a new one. Well then everybody on the left will say, see we told you so.

If he does a respectful interview (which I think he will) People on the right are going to say he did a softball.

This will in no way be a ‘Make or Break’ interview. If afterwords his e-hate/love mail runs 50/50. Then he did perfect.

No I don’t think that, only the ones that want to be informed do. I take you for a MSNBC guy (or gal)

Really? Then why if as you say, and your like minded folks have said. Nothing but old people watch FNC and now they are all in bed by 8:00. Why does FNC win the Prime time ratings night after night? You mean to tell me that with everybody who watches being in bed by 8:00 PM MSNBC,HLN & CNN still can’t beat FNC in the ratings?

Wow! It’s worse then I thought for those cable news channels. FNC beats em’s and according to Ted, they do it without a full squad!

  • Azarkhan

    BRET should make Obama CRAWL!!!

Obama-your HENCHMEN SLIMED FOX and NOW you want to TALK??? Your ASSASSINS Failed to KILL FOX and now you want to talk? You don’t have enough VOTES in the HOUSE and now you want to talk? **ANITA DUMB**your MAOist bitch failed, and now you want to TALK?

  • Adam Dub

They should let Krauthammer interview him

  • Azarkhan

    MichelleF-

A well-deserved COMEUPPANCE for their Blasphemy!

  • Cubby

Wow Azarkhan, we are used to your rational, mature, and civil arguments around here – but I am a little worried you are veering off into Karl Spensen territory here. That post sounded more like someone impersonating the slavish Fox-worship of the tea party movement.

  • MichelleF

That is a GREAT idea, Adam Dub. I would pay $$ to see that one!

  • pyrope

-0bama should go on FOX News–no one watches anything else.

Obama is his own worst enemy. He thinks the President is a ruler, not a leader. Big difference.

As good an analysis as any ….

  • Olby Sucks

He’s not called the teddy baier for no reason.

  • Olby Sucks

adam dub, obama wouldn’t go into the same room with Krauthammer.

  • MichelleF

It is possible to do a hard-hitting, yet respectful interview. The problem seems to be that if you ask Obama a tough question, you are called out as a racist. Sad, but true.

adam dub, obama wouldn’t go into the same room with Krauthammer.

I’m not so sure about that. On the one hand we have a man who conducted a spirited, respectful campaign against the declared front-runner, and the most powerful women to ever come along in American politics. If you can go 20 rounds with SOS Clinton, Krauthammer is a piece of cake. On the other hand, when Krauthammer decided he would take RNC Talking Points as the pronouncement of conservative orthodoxy, he change from an authoritative conservative voice to a mere babbling talking head. Krauthammer is a mere shadow of himself from six (6) years ago.

  • MichelleF

Yes, but he had the media solidly in his corner. That’s pretty huge.

  • scytherius

What I don’t get is why Obama would agree to be interviewed by a non-news network. Any thoughts?

  • pyrope

I dunno sey, -0bama went on “Litterman” and I don’t think ol’ Dave knows much about news. He was also on the view, oprah, and all the other idiotic drivel that libs watch.

Here’s the deal: HEALTH CARE IS GOING TO PASS!! He’s going on Fox News as THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES to address the pros of the soon to be NEWLY PASSED LAW. So, all of you FOX “NEWS” watchers and Fox “News” apologists, GET OVER IT. There’s a new law in this country. It’s called HEALTH CARE REFORM!

All of these people saying these slanderous things about the president doesn’t change the fact that HCR WILL PASS!! Instead of the name calling and hateful rhetoric, why doesn’t anyone have any constructive criticism and civil disagreements? This might elevate the conversation to AT LEAST to an 8th grade level.
