Gibbs: President Doesn’t Waste His Time Watching Cable Television

At today’s briefing, conservative radio host and reporter Lester Kinsolving asked Press Secretary Robert Gibbs to respond to a pair of MSNBC quotes. First, a golden oldie from June, in which a Newsweek editor compares the President to God (it makes slightly more sense in context), and Chris Matthews’ post-SOTU declaration that he had forgotten that Obama was black for an hour.

Lester, you may recall, got a really quick answer to a really long question awhile back. Gibbs was equally brief this time.

Transcript: (via White House Press Office)

Lester Kinsolving: All right. Last June, Newsweek’s editor, Evan Thomas, on MSNBC, said the President is “sort of God.” Last week on MSNBC, Chris Matthews said the President is “post-racial. I forgot he was black tonight for an hour.” What is the President’s reaction to these two MSNBC revelations?

MR. GIBBS: Smartly, the President does not occupy his time watching cable television.

Lester Kinsolving: Oooh! (Laughter.)

Well, we had a pretty good idea he wasn’t watching Fox News, but MSNBC? What will Keith Olbermann say when he finds out his entreaties of “Mr. President,…” are falling on the ears of mere peasants?

Since he didn’t say otherwise, I will assume, for the time being, that the President does occupy his time reading Mediaite, and say “Excellent choice, Mr. President.”
