Herman Cain’s Campaign Only Has ‘Several Hundred Thousand Dollars” At His Disposal

Video

On her show this evening, CNN’s Erin Burnett and her guest, Newsweek/Daily Beast columnist John Avalon, discussed GOP presidential hopeful Herman Cain’s “momentum” as he continues his campaign.

The two circled back to Burnett’s interview with Cain, during which he shared that he only has “several hundred thousand dollars” at his disposal:

RELATED: President Obama Raises More Than $70 Million In Third Quarter

And we are going to have, we will report at the end of the quarter several hundred thousand dollars in cash on hand.

He added that things have “really picked up lately.” Keep in mind that his competitors, including Romney and Obama, have gathered several millions of dollars. Although, as Avalon, pointed out, while money is important, it ultimately does not decide who becomes president.

Cain needs to get tough , like John Boehner : Boehner is tired of Obama lying about the Republicans in his daily campaign speeches .

“President Obama placed a phone call to House Speaker John Boehner this afternoon to congratulate him on passing three free trade agreements through the House of Representatives Wednesday, but what started as a courtesy call ended with the two leader’s disagreeing over  job creation.

According to a read-out of the phone call provided by the office of the speaker, once the president and speaker finished exchanging niceties over the FTAs, Boehner “respectfully challenged” Obama for saying he had not yet seen a plan from Republicans to create jobs.

“I want to make sure you have all the facts,” the speaker told the president during a phone call that lastedabout 10 minutes, according to the read-out.

The speaker then reminded the president that House Republicans put forth a Plan for America’s Job Creators in May, and recalled that he and other members of the GOP leadership team had spoken with Obama and his staff about the plan and they’d referred to it on numerous occasions, including in letters addressed to the president.

“The speaker told the president that when he sent his jobs plan to the Hill, Republicans pledged to give it consideration, and have done so,” the read-out stated. “The president was reminded of a memo written by GOP leaders outlining the specific areas where they believe common ground can be found.  The speaker also noted that a number of the president’s ideas have already been acted on in the House, including a veterans hiring bill, trade agreements, and a three percent withholding bill approved by the Ways & Means Committee today that will be considered on the House floor this month.”

To be fair, I thought the speaker retired, he has not done much since taking office. He was so happy to get to be speaker he  forgot he actually has to get something done.

I guess Cain cannot collect the corporate bribes and kickbacks like ol Obama and Romney can.

  • Rex the Wonder God

Yeah, what a rude & clueless moran that Obama is, failing to congratulate Speaker Boehner in his directing the House Republican Caucus to focus 90% of its energies on restricting women in their choices over what happens to their bodies when men rape them. In being so selfish & short-sighted, Obama missed a golden opportunity to reach out in a bipartisan way so that the entire federal legislative structure can unify in completely screwing over women. I expect this will have huge consequences in the 2012 elections, as many tens of millions of women go to the ballot box in unity to show this president once and for all that there’s a huge political price to be paid for wasting his publicly-paid for resources in trying to get people to work and get the economy working. People just don’t care about those sorts of things; what they care about, all they think about, 24-7, is how to make sure that no American woman can ever again bring harm or violence to a human sperm.

Cain will not win. He does not have the resources to compete with the other candidates. He will be destroyed by the other candidates once the season heats up. If he survives, he’ll be battling Obama with a broken leg(not very useful). President Obama will destroy Herman Cain. So to all my further right friends who like to call me a RINO, I’m just being sensible, don’t vote Cain.

  • Rex the Wonder God

Actually, this might be the most admirable part of the Cain campaign, that it’s not dependent on being bank-rolled by anyone else.

Well, so far that is: I would expect that with Cain being so successful in promoting the interests of Pete Petersen and Grover Nordquist, those folks will put their heads together and find SOME way to make sure his voice continues to get heard throughout the Republican primary season.

Uh-oh…things are looking so bad for Cain he might actually have to get off his book tour and start a real campaign.

  • Nature Freak

Anita Perry seems to be encouraging Cain.

    WTF is up with her?

  • Rex the Wonder God

But isn’t this fascinating? The candidate attracting the most in campaign donations – DIRECT campaign donations, at least; we really don’t have a clue about what’s being spent & what might be spent by PACs and SUPERPACs – is getting his redneck-topped white butt kicked by some black Uncle Tom on tour promoting his childishly self-centered fantasy book.

There’s all kinds of possible messages that might be taken from this: That Republicans mainlining tea can only relate to economic policy that involves simple and simplistic repetition of one number (The Count would do GREAT with these folks.); That some significant percentage of ordinary American politically-motivated conservative voters might be at least partly immune to the fall-out from Citizens United; That a lot of voters have this surprisingly not self-evident expectation that their ideal leader of the Free World actually be able to string together orthodox sentences; That while Texans may be unduly enamored of ex-college yell leaders, outside of Texas they’re regarded as completely puerile & silly; and on and on.

Still, I suspect the biggest message is that an overwhelming majority of Republican primary voters are strongly unified in not wanting their party to end up nominating Romney, and are acting out their frustrations in seeing their shared hopes for a viable alternative hemorrhaging like like a back-shot coyote .

  • Rex the Wonder God

Yeah, he’s really going to miss all that extra cash he needs to remind folks he’s the president.

  • Texan

In case you haven’t seen it on kos or think propaganda yet a generic republican polls better than oboma.

  • Texan

How can we vote for him if he hasn’t won the nomination, socky?

  • Rex the Wonder God

It’s hard not to like him for his resilience, at least; but he’s always known his place and there’s no reason to think he’s lost track of it in the glare of national attention. He’s the guy, after all, most eager to indicate who he would and would not like to serve among the other candidates as second banana.

The biggest problem for ol’ Herb won’t be the attacks on his nein-nein-nein plan, because that’s too hard for his fellow competitors to act, what with ALL of them, RoPaul possibly alone excepted, courting the Pete Petersens, Grover Nordquists, Koch Bros, & Karl Roves of the moneybags set. Instead, it will be his nearly complete absence of a GOTV organization. Pretty soon, the focus will be a lot less on the debates and a lot more on push polls, robo calls, big TV ad buys, and the candidates’ ground games. That’s where Cain is going to fall off. The question then is who picks up his votes. Perry knows that those votes want to go to him, but he can’t even say Hello let alone close the deal.

Keep in mind that New Hampshire right now is looking at two dates in December, the earliest one being the 6th, and that Iowa is insisting on its usual position of going first. Voting could start in a matter of 6 weeks.

Adding to California’s sales tax, I still think  8.75% because I don’t count the local SALES TAXES.

The point here, in case you still don’t get it, dumbsht Cain is trying to sell pizza with a 9% tax, when for all practical purposes, unless you are a moron, it is indeed 10%.

10% “national sales tax” + 8.75% CA sales tax = 20% tax at the cashier.

On the other hand, the moron Cain doesn’t mention ANY CUTS to “big gubimmint” expenditures. Why, BECAUSE HE HAS NO CLUE!

Interesting. As governor of Massachusetts, Romney seemed the equivalent of Charlie Crist (Who I ended up voting for here in Florida for Senate as Meek did not have a chance).

Fantastic, where is this generic Republican… Oh you mean he isn’t real, darn it. I was hoping that we could have a race between generic republican and
generic democrat, and the winner will be the president of generic
America. You know that the generic democrat beat bush in 2003, and a real democrat beat him in 2000, his name was Al Gore. The only real Republican that can even match Obama now is Romney, and he is pro Roe v. Wade, wants to close tax loopholes, Inspired Obamacare, and is now sympathetic to Occupy Wall Street. So basically the only viable republican is a democrat.

  • Anonymous

Don’t worry the money will start coming in. Even Cain himself kept his organization small because he knew he would be a long shot at the beginning. To be able to have this much popular support without the money says a lot for his potential when he does gets the money. Now that he knows and his supporters know he is a viable top tier candidate the money will start coming in. He used to have a big weakness called ‘name recognition’. That weakness is rapidly going away.

Herman Cain is the only top tier candidate that has the appeal of the Tea Party, the religious base and the neo-conservatives as a combination.

The Tea Party supporters like him because he wants to return to fiscal sanity and constitutional principles. Many Tea Party supporter advocate a radical over haul of the tax system. The 9-9-9 plan appeals to Tea Party supporters because it shows a willingness to think outside the box and they view it as a stepping stone to the FairTax. It may be unrealistic to think either of these plans would pass the current Congress or Senate but after 2012 less RINOs and liberals will be in office. This doesn’t mean it will pass but we will be very close to getting something simple and efficient that doesn’t cost the American people and businesses nearly half a trillion dollars to just hire people or tax programs to figure it all out. Reforming the tax code to be pro-business and less complicated is the single biggest thing we can do to get jobs back to America. They also like him because he doesn’t have a problem not being PC when called for.

He appeals to religious right because his is an associate Baptist minister. He probably could not get Role v. Wade over turned but he would restrict federal funding and as a Black man may be able to be a good mouth piece in educating Blacks in this country that abortions has impacted them the most. A few million more Blacks would be alive today had abortion not been an option. I’m not necessarily someone who thinks abortion should be out right illegal but I see both sides.

The Neo-Cons like his back to the basics foreign policy approach. Know who your enemies are and who your friends are and be clear about what that means. Build and update a missile defense system that is unmatched by any other country so we can deter and protect ourselves and our interest against a rouge nation using nukes. Peace through strength.

You probably don’t like his views or policies but I and others do. His wide range appeal and his name recognition is only getting better. And the other thing that I don’t really need to mention he is a very intelligent man that is motivated and successful. I’ve said this before his is a better role model for people of all races than Obama is for his own race. Just my opinion.

Other candidates are considered by many as to far libertarian although I consider myself one the country ain’t quite ready for us yet. Some of the candidates believe that AGW is real which will get them no where with the rank and file republican like myself. Mitt is way too liberal for most. Herman Cain is the perfect storm headed to the White House.

sorry of any typos it’s getting late I didn’t have time to check for errors.

White supremacy has profoundly damaged some black people people in this country. Truly it has. Case in point: at every step of his career Herman Cain benefited from the Civil Rights Movement and programs such as affirmative action in hiring and university admissions. Now, he spits in the face of that legacy and plays the “racism doesn’t exist” game.I am still processing Herman Cain’s mouth utterances and white racism apology parade from earlier today on CNN. At first, I thought that Herman Cain was running a con game and did not believe the mess he was offering to satisfy his white tea party base. Now, I am at a point where I am convinced that Herman Cain believes what he is saying; his internalization of white supremacy and disdain for black people is the real deal.Herman Cain is a crystallization of black self-hate and a gross, almost clinical narcissism. at that video for example, there is so much pain in his anecdote about being refused service at a black barbershop that I almost–notice I said almost–want to shed a tear for poor lil HERB.

Your post is a Stuttering Clusterfuck of a miserable failure!

Cain’s plan has picked up a couple of important, wholehearted endorsements: Paul Ryan and Art Laffer.

Jeez – I’d hate to see a Milquetoast Romney get in, or worse yet, Obama re-elected, simply ’cause they’ve got the most money.  Don’t understand – if people like Cain, and if they like the ‘message’, then why not support him?  We REALLY NEED to get away from “business as usual”.

Herman Cain makes republicans feel good about themselves.  He gives them THE ILLUSION OF INCLUSION, so they vote for him in these mock polls but they will never give a black man their hard earned cash.  Tha’ts too much like welfare

9 PIZZAS FOR 9 DAYS AT 900.00 should solve his problem

    LOLOLOL….PRICELESS!!

yeah but HE’S GOT MORE THAN CAIN

  • Indigo710

Any TEAparty member can explain  what they  are about.  Cut ,Cap and Balance. Those blobs of OWS know nothing, a coherent sentence is beyond  them.

  • Indigo710

what are you babbling about? if anyone is ignoring the Constitution it’s  0bama , the EPA, HHS.

Yes, Obama does pretty much everything Republicans tell him to do.

Teabaggers protest themselves. Teabaggers supported the belligerent spending, wars, deregulation, and tax cuts that destroyed our economy. They only call themselves Teabaggers because they are too embarrassed to call themselves Republicans. Imagine being stupid enough to join a movement where you protest the damage you have done. Oh, you don’t have to imagine.

One black guy’s campaign is characterized by Burger King and the other’s is characterized by $16 muffins.

Cain isn’t getting donations because people who understand money know his 999 plan is a scam meant only to last long enough to keep him in the race. Seems people know he is doomed and won’t waste their money on him.

Maybe you are the one who misunderstands the very essence of the United States.
I guess Glenn Beck is your source of expert opinion on the essence thing. Or is it Sarah Palin? Both of them are proven losers, and Bachmann is already fading fast.
The Tea Party has had its shot, and OWS is the backlash.
In the end, Obama will be re-elected, and that is the essence of the US.

Clearly, he is only repeating what he has been told.

His 999 plan will be shot down within 1 month. It is that obviously unworkable.

Got anything more recent? I think that one is as out of date as last week’s poll on Republican candidates.

  • Anonymous

The sad thing is that the mix of all Republican candidates is worse than any one of them alone, and this Generic Republican probably is John Huntsman.

999 appeals to Tea Party members because they can’t do math.
They like the fact that he did it for them and came up with numbers that sound good.
What they don’t realize is that their federal income tax would stay about the same, but new tax would be an ADDITIONAL 9%.
It would effectively DOUBLE the amount of tax they pay to the US government, and that is the OPPOSITE of what they have been yelling about all along.

    That trick won’t work. :-)

You think Cain is the richest candidate on that stage?
I doubt it very much, but you can show me some figures from reliable sources if you want.

  • Anonymous

    Not even tangentially.

Well you certainly don’t know what you are talking about. I am a middle aged southern white woman who just went to Herman Cain’s website and donated some money to his campaign about 10 minutes ago.
I also plan on voting for him in the primaries. He is an intelligent man. Listen to him. You might learn something.
