Jake Tapper Nails Obama, Bloomberg For Being Ignorant About The Guns ‘They Are Trying To Ban’

CNN anchor Jake Tapper took on comments made by prominent politicians advocating for stricter gun laws who have recently made statement suggesting that they are unfamiliar with firearms. Tapper highlighted comments made recently by President Barack Obama and New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg which indicated that they were unfamiliar with the distinctions between a semi-automatic weapon and a fully-automatic weapon. He said that these gun control advocates would be better served if they were more familiar with the subject of guns.

At a closed-door Democratic fundraiser in California, Obama was reported to have said that the weapon used in the massacre at Sandy Hook was a “fully-automatic weapon.”

“That is not correct,” Tapper said. “It was a semi-automatic weapon, not a fully-automatic weapon.” He noted that automatic weapons are essentially banned to the public.

Tapper noted that this comment dovetails with a similar statement made by Bloomberg who asserted that the public should not be allowed to have weapon that spray bullets with a single trigger pull. The journalist conducting the interview with Bloomberg corrected his inaccurate statement.

“The gun debate is worth having,” Tapper noted, “but it might help the advocates of gun control if, in their advocacy for stricter measures, they seemed more familiar with what exactly they’re trying to ban.”
