Jon Stewart: The GOP’s ‘Adult Conversation’ And The Media’s Role As ‘Needy Brat’

video

Since performing very well in the recent midterm elections, the GOP’s has evolved its rhetoric from inimical and bullying to amiable and “adult.” As Jon Stewart points out, party leadership was quite successful in delivering at least one talking point to its ranks, evidenced by the montage of several Republican electees each claiming that its now time for an “adult conversation.” The Daily Show host queried, “by ‘adult conversation’ you mean the kind of conversation where the adult says ‘no! because i said so!’?”

Lots of mockery to go around in the video clip below, as Stewart then continued the metaphor by calling the media the “needy brat” and the Democrats the “step-parents” who will do or say whatever you want for you to like them.

I usually don’t care much for the Very Large Jon Stewart Writing Team, but this was a pretty good comedy skit overall. Loved watching Rand Paul stuff Client #9.

  • The Real Royal King

We owe Stewart a debt for exposing the blatant hypocrisy of the Tea Partiers arguing for across the board budget cuts, except for doctors’ Medicare reimbursement in the case of Dr. Ayn Rand Paul, except in the case of farm subsidies by one of those receiving subsidies, the notoriously unbalance Michelle-not-from-Utah Bachmann, and so on ….

    hypocrisy

The recognition of hypocrisy comes in the early teen years, when children begin to recognize that the words and actions of their parents sometimes don’t match. Most people grow up and come to recognize this as part of what makes us human and forgive it in others. Some people don’t, and become Democrats.

I see Jon is working hard at restoring sanity. As usual, his clips/edits/slices/dices are taken out of context to make his “points”…funny though it may be. But alas, as Rachel told us, she and Jon are the same….comedians not news people.

Fact: GOP raises Jon Stewarts ratings as real adult conversations take place.

The newly elected politicians quickly turned in to carbon copies of the old ones; more concerned with getting reelected than doing what they promised during the campaigns. The king is dead, long live the king!

And this comes as a surprise?

    Isn’t that the truth.

Not to me, but the Tea Partiers must be smarting. Well, I shouldn’t use “smart” and tea party together. But, you get the point.

I think I am a King ! Speaking of ” needy brats ” , Sarah O’ Palin ‘s brats get on my nerves . They run around like children with their “playing ” and “laughing ” when they should be silent in the corner . Barbara Walters’ children and Diane Sawyer’s children would never act so childish !

I don’t think Spitzer’s question to Paul was out of line considering the subject and his admission that most of his income came from government programs. They could have gone with a general number, but it’s worth an answer.

I hope the voters that put these poeple in there will demand something of them rather than justify and excuse bullshitter’s for partisan reasons.

What’s amusing about this is when Fox does it it’s defended as “his or her own words”

Do you know what out of context really means?

GOP has been raising Jon’s ratings for years by providing bullshit for him to point out in a comedic format. Dems too.

It’s too bad our so called news channels weren’t doing more of that.

I know you don’t get it Mr Show, but the Rally for Sanity was not about the election outcome.

The forward march of history is against you. The demographics are against you. As you know you will lose in time. Bill Maher got it right:

uh huh, how dare I suggest that what he earned off of medicare might be relevant to a discussion of medicare and cuts about the budget. What was I thinking?

So, The only way to stop restore fiscal sanity is to cut doctors payments and social security payments? That’s ridiculous. Defense spending is an area with wasteful projects. The federal workforce should be drastically cut in both number and salary. Doctor’s pay massive liability insurance due to litigation concerns, so tort reform is needed. Many answers are out there and Paul Ryan’s plan is a starting point.

Cutting doctors salaries is a ridiculous answer, we need more doctors, not less. Doctors are retiring early because of all the headaches they deal with, we don’t have enough now. Liability insurance can be $100K a year, they have all the insurance forms and staff to do it, it’s a real crisis looming and we’re ignoring. Why not give lower tuition to degrees we need like medical careers or engineering. Or, give tax benefits to doctor’s to automate their office payment systems?

No, easier to just attack than try to do something real.

Republicans know they’ll be held accountable if they aren’t fiscally conservative, so we’ll see how they do.

Do you read much? You are just repeating what was said two years ago when the democrats won. The demographics would keep them in control of the Congress forever. LOL.
Three liberal hispanic judges were defeated by conservative judges in a majority hispanic area in the last election. Hispanic American citizens do NOT support special rights for illegals that want special treatment.
The two new BLACK republican congressman are also a sign of things to come. Two black republicans were elected to the Texas statehouse. The tide is turning.
Blacks are not stupid. When they get past the old guard using the race card they can see they should return to the Republican party.

He didnt ask that, dipshit. He asked “what was your peak INCOME over the last decade, what was the most you EARNED in any one year?” It was a class warfare attack and it proves you only hear what you want to hear.

Nope I don’t. I did not say Paul should have answered the specifics of that question , I said that a discussion of Medicare income is relevant, and rather than shut down the conversation , Paul could have supplied a more general answer.

Doctor’s incomes {not just specifically his} in general is just as relevant as how much they pay for malpractice insurance and the tort reform the GOP keeps wanting. It’s all part of the adult conversation Paul said he wanted earlier in the clip.
