“Terrifically Unpredictable” Don Imus Debuts On Fox Business Network

But again, today is really the launch of two new morning shows at Fox Business Network. The business news only product will be on the web. Lee says the show will have “the same resources, same information, same visual quality,” as the TV version. McShane says “It’s on the verge of being something that’s really big.”

The web offering brings in a whole new set of viewers – viewers that aren’t counted by traditional Nielsen methods. The web shows can be streamed on iPhones and laptops, and the technology makes it an appealing resource. For those who still don’t have FBN in their homes, FoxBusiness.com is a great outlet.

The addition of Imus has been partnered in ads for the network with another recent hire – ABC News’ John Stossel. “We’ve gotten to point where people want to work here, and that’s a terrific, fun thing,” said Magee. “John always been a very distinct voice, not unlike Don Imus. We’re delighted to welcome him.”

The duo are sure to bring in some extra viewership to the network, and at the very least will give the channel some buzz and added interest. Stossel’s libertarian appeal and Imus’ cross-party political views means traditionally conservative Fox viewers will both love and hate the pair at different turns. But they’ll certainly have an opinion about them. And that’s why big names, with big views, may succeed on this platform. Besides the opportunities to stop by the big brother, Fox News Channel, the FNC team will likely be involved in Imus’ show as well.

For its 3rd year, expect more changes to bring in big voices at FBN. Magee wouldn’t comment specifically, but he did say, “It’s what brought Glenn Beck to Fox News Channel. There’s not a day that goes by I don’t watch our programming and wonder what there is to make a little better, a little more accessible to our audience.”

This is the mentality that turned FNC into the enormous success it is now. FBN has a long way to go to even compete with CNBC, but Imus could help accelerate the process. He’ll certainly provide some juicy soundbites.

(One side note – McShane has another reason he’s excited for his new role: “A big advantage of doing the Imus show, being on there every day, is maybe I can move up the Power Grid.”)
