Top 10 Again: Fox News Finishes July With Top 10 Cable News Programs

ratings

Once again, Fox News is finishing the month with the top 10 programs on cable news – in both total viewers and the A25-54 demographic.

FNC also was 3rd on all of cable in prime time (total viewers), with MSNBC 28th, CNN 32nd and HLN 35th. Here are more details from July 2010:

• FNC had the top 10 programs in both categories, while Countdown with Keith Olbermann finished 11th in the demo and 12th in total viewers. FNC’s Red Eye at 3amET finished better in the demo than CNN’s line-up from 6-9pmET.

• During every hour on cable news, FNC beat CNN and MSNBC combined, while the prime time programs beat CNN, MSNBC and HLN combined in total viewers. This comes despite drops for Fox News year-to-year – along with the rest of cable news. In prime time, MSNBC was down the least (9% in both categories) while FNC was down the second least (in the teens). The same went for total day, when MSNBC was actually up marginally in the demo (1%). CNN was down more than 40% in every category One notable show with growth for FNC was Fox & Friends, which grew 8% year-to-year in the demo, in it’s 105th month in first place.

Not that I think the Sherrod story is going to hurt FOX, but you may want to wait to toot the horn. The effects of the Sherrod would show up in the August ratings. This is the ratings for the month of July. For the record, I’m not saying the July numbers will be different from August. I’m just warning you about jumping the gun.

And that does look confusing, what I mean Sherrod came about last week. So, it’s too early to tell how it affected the ratings. What were the ratings for last week compared to the previous week? That’s where you could toot the horn.

    here’s a shocker…from the huffington post
Fox News may be the undisputed ratings champion in cable news, but not among black viewers.

The New York Times’ Brian Stelter tweeted that, according to Nielsen Media Research, Fox News has averaged just 29,000 black viewers in primetime so far this television season (9/09-7/10). That represents just 1.38% of its 2.102 million total viewer audience.

CNN and MSNBC, meanwhile, both have far more black viewers, both in absolute terms and as a proportion of their overall audiences.

MSNBC has averaged 145,000 black viewers, representing 19.3% of its 751,000 total viewer audience.

CNN has averaged 134,000 black viewers, representing 20.7% of its 648,000 total viewer audience.

Stelter noted that he pulled the Nielsen numbers after working on his story in Monday’s New York Times on race and cable news.

His piece, “When Race Is the Issue, Misleading Coverage Sets Off an Uproar,” examines the recent media firestorm over comments made by USDA official Shirley Sherrod as an example of “warfare” waged by conservative media.

and this is before shirley sherrod…haha

Now, now, Michelle-in-Utah, I know you may be all exuberant about Mr. Jeffs winning his appeal and getting a new trail, but you remember the lesson from earlier in the week. FOX News’ ratings are not going to take a hit. The 1% or so of Amerikans who tune into FOX qre the true believers, the bona fide wingnuts. They are not going to leave. If O’Hannity and O’Breitbart were caught in a passionate embrace on the set, you and all the other wingnuts would blame it all on a liberal wingnut. What happened to FOX this week was not a loss in ratings, and it isn’t going to be. It was the loss, perhaps the irrevocable loss, of dignity, credibility and legitimacy which Murdoch, Ailes and all the FOX family and FOX friends so desperately crave. Intelligent, serious Americans will not take FOX seriously for another generation. Think about Michael Wiener, his fans and those who scoff at them. This is the fate of FOX, even as all the wingnuts cling all the more to the lies, deceptions and frauds FOX perpetrates and perpetuates.

Which is why studies show they have a large percentage of people from both sides of aisle… Republicans AND Democrats. A fact that folks like TRRK (who is still very upset over this past week not actually having anything to do with FNC, and being proven wrong time and time again) will gladly ignore to advance their paranoia.

It was the loss, perhaps the irrevocable loss, of dignity, credibility and legitimacy which Murdoch, Ailes and all the FOX family and FOX friends so desperately crave.

July 27 (Reuters) – Republicans still enjoy a big advantage in enthusiasm about November’s U.S. congressional elections, with their party members far more engaged and more likely to vote in a trend that could spell big trouble for Democrats.

President Barack Obama drew millions of first-time voters to the polls and pumped up Democratic turnout in the 2008 election, but those novice voters appear far more likely to sit things out in 2010 with Obama not on the ballot and his approval ratings drifting downward.

So, first, I didn’t say that their ratings were going go down. The point I was making is to hold off on the tooting of the horn that the ratings didn’t go down because of the Sherrod case. You can toot the horn for the August ratings, since any effect it had would show up there. See, the first part of the month keeps a ratings loss from being in the picture since it could’ve been an anomaly. The week’s ratings are where you want to look. And believe me if you look their you won’t see a drop. I told you where the more reliable data is located. Are you so blinded by hate, that you don’t recognize help?

I don’t have to spin anything here. I don’t believe ratings equal what’s right. Network news is about the battle for ratings. FOX knows its base, and will play to that to keep its ratings up. But Ailes himself says he is in the ratings game. Murdoch also believes in ratings. So, there will always be a slant when you play the game at that level. It’s like the circulation wars during the turn of the century, and yellow journalism came into play. It sold papers, and that’s what they wanted. I also don’t buy into the MSNBC market as the end all be all law. Again, this isn’t spin, this is my core beliefs. Simple. And by making me into an enemy, then you can’t get your views and your ideas across. I’m not making you into an enemy.

Now, I have to go into battle with my current enemy. MichelleF, please don’t make his mistakes. Don’t let hate keep you from talking about issues.

    HLN – 525,000 viewers

You really need to do better at your spin, Permafrost- you are really looking desperate. Again!

First, plexiglass was a better slam on my name than Permafrost. Anyway, we’re beyond that now, notsofast.

Let’s get into the twisting of our first meeting. I’ve talked to yo u about this already, I’m going to speak in all caps right now, just so you get it. And you’ll see again, that the argument has been taken out of the equation of our battle, and actually ends up hurting you.

See, you complain about people twisting your words, and yet, you’ve twisted mine. I could call you a hypocrite, but you’ve used that word so much that it doesn’t have the impact.

I WAS NEW TO SITE, I’VE BEEN ON OTHER SITES AND NO LEFT OR LIBERAL HAD MADE THAT STATEMENT. NOW, I WAS CURIOUS. AGAIN, PEOPLE TALKED IN ABSOLUTES. THE LIBS KEEP SAYING THAT NO ONE WATCHES FOX. I WANTED A LINK THAT SHOWED THAT. SIMPLE. YOU SAID, ASK ROYAL RACE BAITER (you’re name for him). HOW MANY PEOPLE WATCH FOX. NOW, ANYONE NEW TO THIS SITE (Ex. me) WOULD READ THAT IT WAS JUST THE ROYAL ONE. THAT WAS YOUR RESPONSE TO ME. AGAIN, I TOOK THE LOGICAL APPROACH WHICH I TEND TO DO. JUST ONE? I ASKED. YOU SAID LIBS, I SAID SO ONE SAYS IT AND THAT MEANS ALL SAY IT? NOTE QUESTION MARK. YOU ATTACKED ME. SAYING I WAS WRONG! NO, I WASN’T WRONG.

Thus, if you say I am twisting your words, you are a hypocrite (I used the word anyway). Ratings does not equal quality. Again, this is an entertainment venture. It’s about ratings. It is a logical fallacy to say “Well, it’s tops in the ratings, then it must be right.” It’s called appeal to popularity (ad populum).

    1. Most people approve of X
    2. Therefore X is true.

Here, “A million Elvis fans can’t be wrong,” is an example of the fallacy. Again, in debate, the claim of FOX leading the ratings means its good and right would be thrown out. You seem to confuse logic and reason with desperation. But alas, you used a false assumption that you made over something I said (which using reason can be seen that I did not challenge your claim at all. You came back with faulty evidence for a question that I asked. If you hadn’t, I would’ve said, Oh, well, that’s an interesting stance taken in this forum, since it is clearly not true since FOX leads the ratings. And I may have gone after those claiming it. Again, blind hatred hurt you here. Pure and simple.)

And I bring up your statement of blind hatred, which you claim wasn’t a racist statement. Remember it?

I wish I could own you for one day just so I could whip your pathetic lib ass black!

I will also put it into context that it was a response to a poster who said Fox was trying to bring back slavery. Now, I don’t need to analyze it (or twist it by your definition). I’ll let others do it.

Oh, and, yes, I misrepresented an article I read about Fox and Friends. I said that Morning Joe was beating Fox and Friends in the ratings. That was clearly wrong. And I did read the article wrong and delivered it as fact. My fault. I learned from it. And please if I do give something as fact that is wrong, call me out on it. I’ll correct it. I’m not beyond mistakes. I will make them.

The reason there will be no rating fall for Fox is that they did NOTHING wrong. Fox will continue to be the most trusted news network because they report ALL the news.

Just this morning, Gretchen Van Carlson was interviewing a council member in some Cracker town which had passed a resolution making English the official language of the Crackers. The Gretch kept referring to English as our official language in America, which it is not. We’ve never had an official language. And, she kept referring to the measure as “English Only” which the official went to great lengths to explain it was not. Undaunted, she pressed the Talking Point.

The official let it be known that the purpose of the legislation was to save money by avoiding translation fees and dual signage. He then volunteered that there had never been any funds spent by the town on translation fees or dual signage. A good thing he volunteered because she never asked and never commented on his proffer. Talking Points strike again.

Yes, FOX reports all the news. At least, all the rightist talking points.

You obviously didn’t watch O’Hannity’s “interview” with Breitbart. Promotion and propogation of Breitbart’s lies. Intentional. Malicious. But, as they say back at your home, “Anything less than full praise for FOX, and you’re on Exile Island.” Have you ever wondered why such an august media organization with hundreds of millions of viewers daily needs full time shrilled and thin-skinned defenders? It’s odd, isn’t it?

Well, you can’t use the word hypocrite here. I didn’t say anything hypocritical. I said not to do what you did. You did a baseless attack, an attack on someone you didn’t know. Perhaps because my thoughts drifted closer to the liberal mindset. You though, Lib! and decided to attack me for no good reason. That was based on blind hate, closed minds, and an inability to accept your own faults that you lash out unreasonably. It’s classic behavior. I warned MichelleF not do to that. I’ve never said I have no enemies. I’ve never said I wouldn’t defend when attacked. Look at how long this is going on without getting deeper into the issues. Now, it seems that you have become your own one man echo chamber that you spout out the same thing over and over again, but don’t evaluate what’s happening. It’s sad. You’re a sad man (or woman), and we shouldn’t hate you, but feel that there is some deep unseated pain within your heart that you have to turn it out onto other people, especially here where no one sees your face, no one looks past the shields of written words. You are hiding, something serious. I’m not saying go get help, but I have poking and prodding and you have yet to prove me wrong, and as you continue to come after me, I will continue to dissect that shield. Are you sure you want to find out what’s down there, cause I’m willing to find it.

You’re right, they aren’t News shows, but the thing that worries me is the people (cons included) who believe they are. And there seem to be a lot of them out there. Also, I don’t think The Daily Show is a news show either, and it worries me that there are people that do.

But King, during the Sherrod story, you were stressing just how powerful Fox is. Now you’re back to telling us they have almost no viewers. It’s kind of like when you argue that all white conservatives are rich and privileged, then turn around and say all white conservatives are poor trailer trash. And the funny thing is, you never see any contradictions in what you’re posting.

The Real Royal Pain (in the ass),
I did watched the Hannity’s interview with Andrew Brietbart.

    Breitbart said:
“The reason why Shirley Sherrod is the story right now, not the NAACP, is because the White House which stands by the firing or the forced resignation — harassment as she said — they made the story about Shirley. They threw her under the bus.

I have not asked that she get fired. I’ve not asked for an investigation into her. The whole point was to show that the — for the NAACP to spend five days on national TV saying that the Tea Party is racist without any evidence when we can prove that the central argument didn’t happen and the mainstream media won’t play it — for them to talk about racism they should not be throwing stones in glass houses.

And what this video shows and what the NAACP affirms in their initial rebuke is not just that Shirley Sherrod, what she said was wrong, but that the audience was laughing and applauding as she described how she maltreated the white farmer.”

Sherrod went on with CNN’s John King:
Asked about the NAACP’s actions during an interview with CNN on Tuesday, Sherrod said the only reason the video surfaced was in response to an NAACP resolution accusing the tea party of using “racist” tactics. “They got into a fight with the tea party, and all of this came out as a result of that,” Sherrod said.

It’s a matter of record. The NAACP got punk’d. The bonus was that the White House also got punk’d.
    Obama acted stupidly….again.

Right, so only a week of the Sherrod story is in there. Again, if numbers went down, it wouldn’t necessarily show up then, since it was only a week among four weeks. That was my point. Wasn’t saying it was a lie, I was just saying that it was too early to start the horn tooting. Next month, you can start the horn tooting.
