UK Labour Leader: Trump ‘Should Not Be Welcomed to Britain’ While Ban’s in Place
Jeremy Corbyn, the leader of the UK Labour Party, said earlier today that President Trump “should not be welcomed to Britain” so long as his new travel ban is in place.
In an interview with ITV (video above), Corbyn weighed in on the upcoming state visit Trump is making, saying that “I’m not happy about him coming here until that ban is lifted.”
And on Twitter, he not only called on Prime Minister Theresa May to postpone Trump’s state visit, but he promoted a petition calling on her to do so:
.@realDonaldTrump should not be welcomed to Britain while he abuses our shared values with shameful #MuslimBan & attacks on refugees & women

.@Theresa_May would be failing the British people if she does not postpone the state visit & condemn Trump's actions in the clearest terms

The petition reads, “Donald Trump should be allowed to enter the UK in his capacity as head of the US Government, but he should not be invited to make an official State Visit because it would cause embarrassment to Her Majesty the Queen.”
As of this posting, the petition has over 600,000 signatures. 10,000 signatures are needed to get a government response; 100,000 are needed to get Parliament to consider the petition for a debate.
