If you took away the name-calling, ridicule and character attacks from the MSNBC hosts, there would be nothing left. I’ve never seen a “news” network that spent so little time dealing with issues. Do you ever hear MSNBC hosts address the unemployment disaster, the mounting casualties in Afghanistan, the stagnant economy, the declining dollar, the out-of-control spending of Congress, or the other issues that concern most voters? Virtually never. But the barrage of insults and smears never ends. So of course Matthews would ignore Gov. Christie’s brave leadership and push for fiscal responsibility and focus instead on his weight. This is the modus operandi of MSNBC and the American left.

I never get over how people pick the candidate they want to support. Somebody who looks good. Somebody you like. Imagine your daughter needed a perilous operation to save her life. I agree some people won’t vote for him – Democrats. Based on the comments here, they are still bigoted towards overweight people. The attacks on Christie and Bristol have proved that point, here. And the attack ads about his weight by his opponents displayed more bigotry.

But I think Conservatives and Indy’s would totally vote for Christie. Chubby works on him.

This is exactly why I’m not sure you have much to offer us by way of American political commentary. Sure, you can go to the internet and call up volumes of “facts” and irrelevant data and opinion, but in your expatriate isolation from America, you don’t sense the mood and nuance anymore. Frankly, “fat” is the new “Colored”. Fat slurs in New York, Atlanta, Houston, Los Angeles and Seattle are as socially acceptable as racial slurs once were in the country as a whole and still are in South Carolina and Alabama. I don’t think that is a good or positive thing, but fat is an anathema, and we have to deal with that, like it or not. I mean look at Huckelberry. What is the first thing he did when he got serious about national politics? He lost weight. Thompson? The same. Clinton? Up and down, but the same. Americans don’t want a gross tub of lard as their leader, whatever his or her politics. It seems unseemly. A bit of an embarrassment. I suspect if you were an American, you’d have a better sense of all of this.
