Video: East Coast Earthquake Interrupts Dominique Strauss-Kahn Press Conference In NY
In the minutes following a reported 6.0 magnitude earthquake, epicentered in Virginia, but felt all up and down the East Coast, expect to see more surreal video like this clip from CNN. A press conference on the Dominique Strauss-Kahn case in New York City was interrupted by the quake, which quickly cleared the room. While Californians are probably laughing themselves silly at us, this is all very new to us. Luckily, someone near the camera was there to reassure skittish New Yorkers. A calm voice can be heard saying, “It’s okay. I’ve been through earthquakes in Seattle all the time.”
All in all, though, the New Yorkers acquitted themselves admirably, exiting in rapid, orderly fashion:
This is likely to be the first earthquake for many, so tremor-accustomed West Coasters ought to give us a break. About 60 miles away in New Jersey, my thought process when the quake hit was exactly this: 1. Which of these damn kids is kicking my chair? 2. WTF? Is this an earthquake? 3. Oh, sh@%, did someone just nuke the City? 4. Nah, it’s a quake. (4-and-a-half? “Lemme tweet this!”)
