Wait, How Did That End Again?… Hewitt Says Pence Is Ser Davos to Trump’s Stannis Baratheon
If you clicked on this, you are probably familiar with Game of Thrones. And therefore, you are very confused as to why conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt used that particular analogy on Meet the Press today.
On the heels of Mike Huckabee‘s flawless “Hillary Clinton is the shark in Jaws and Donald Trump is Captain Quint wait didn’t Quint get eaten by the shark aw fiddlesticks” argument, Hewitt said this today in response to how Mike Pence stood by Trump in an earlier interview (per NBC):
TODD: How did Mike Pence defend him this morning?
HEWITT: I thought Mike Pence did a very good job. In fact, I’m a Game of Thrones geek and I was thinking “There’s Davos Seaworth defending Stannis Baratheon in the bad days of Stannis Baratheon.”
Now, again, if you’ve seen the show, you know what the relationship between Davos and Stannis is like. (Does this make Steve Bannon Melisande?)
***SPOILERS BELOW***
And if you’re caught up on season five, then you know that not only does Stannis ultimately not heed Davos’ advice, but he becomes so desperate for victory that he sacrifices his own child to help him win and he still gets crushed.
Oh, and the punchline:
Um, except that Stannis Baratheon was actually killed by a woman https://t.co/1xHpjEZnRp

Hewitt defended the analogy thusly:
The analogy actually used is of a very good man serving and trying to advise, correct and save a flawed leader. It works for @mike_pence https://t.co/2ewWnf4lgG

“Flawed” is what one might categorize as an understatement of Stannis’ character.
