Will Ferrell Takes Over Jay Carney’s Podium In White House Briefing Room Visit

The White House Press Briefing Room got a little disorderly yesterday as comedian Will Ferrell swung by to say hello to Press Secretary Jay Carney and generally fool around in the White House. CNN caught some of the footage of Ferrell posing for pictures and joking with Carney.

According to the Washington Post, Ferrell is in town to receive the illustrious Mark Twain Prize for American Humor this weekend, in a ceremony where several of his Saturday Night Live colleagues will honor his career. Since he had an extra day, he decided to drop by the Briefing Room, much to the delight of many reporters and, of course, Carney.

Was this supposed to be entertaining? It’s just people taking pictures with a celebrity. He didn’t say anything funny.

    Why is this on Mediaite?

    Agreed.

And just what does have Farrel to contribute to anything thing of any consequence in this society?

I’m glad he didn’t slip into his Bush impersonation cause that would be really sad

At least it keeps this numbnuts off a movie set .

Come to think of it , so do audiences .

No, that would have been an improvement on this nothing clip.

Have you not seen his one man show on the Decider? Quite a lot it’s available free on YouTube. Lots of good bits, like the boat trip with Poppy. Ferrell nails Bush largely because he can make it look like his eyes are too close together to allow for adequate frontal lobe activity.

I bet there’s little part in Ferrell that’s hoping Perry wins; but actually Romney would present a more interesting and probably rewarding challenge – altho Jason Sudakis is coming along very nicely with his Mitt. The only thing it lacks is that little thing behind the facade that threatens to turn into the tiny man inside coming out to tell us all the truth, like what happened in the great Lawn Care exchange last Tuesday night. And how absolutely Republican that it should have been about hiring immigrants for LAWN care. Resident Old Lawn Guard Guy N-Orbit must feel so proud.

You have to work harder on your quips. Right now, they come across as quoops. The line would work better as, At least this keeps him off movie sets. And that’s it; no need to go on further. He had that big flop this year with the time travel movie, but he’s pretty reliable otherwise, and some of them are classics. Actually, his classics all seem to take the mickey out of conservatives: Ron Burgundy, Rickie-Bobby … I think you can see why Gloves might not be a fan.

I don’t know,I’d like to see Ferrell take the job over permanently.Anything is better than the walking tape recorders that have had the job during the Obama administration.Gibbs was awful,Carney is a sheep.

I know I’d never take the job though. It must be tough never being able to think independently or have your own opinion, but then maybe the last two guys didn’t anyway.

You guys remember when Will Ferrell was funny that one time in Old School? Wow… that was a really long time ago.
As wasn’t W.F. once the highest payed actor in Hollywood? His agent must of been the devil himself to make that happen.

  • Really bord dude

    Triple agree

The Dems sure cannot hide their celebrity worship. From the clip asking for the press, I guess the press wasnt as interested, good for them.

Because to liberals news is suppose to be entertaining and mocking people who don’t share the juvenile and dependent personalities

  • Your Mama’s so fat

The Mark Twain Prize is awarded by the prestigious Kennedy Center in Washington each year.  This years recipient Will Farrell visited the White House as have all the previous recipients.  The press understood it was just a comedic interlude and not a serious attempt at a press conference.  The republicans did not.

So, why did Mediaite post this?  Is this page so enamored with celebrity?

I like Ferrell.  I think he would be a good replacement as press secretary.  We’d know from the start that he’s BSing, and we’d all enjoy it.  Carney, on the other hand, just makes stuff up as he goes and expects us to take him seriously and buy it.

I just wonder what actress could impersonate those lizard eyes of Bachman if the unthinkable happened.

Trust me, if Will Ferrell is in the room Republicans know it’s a joke.

It was more exciting than the average White House briefing.

Has the run away bride gone into acting?
