Veteran and 2020 Hopeful Seth Moulton Says Trump is Not Keeping America Safe
Rep. Seth Moulton (D-MA) criticized President Donald Trump’s record on national security issues Saturday, saying “Trump is not doing a good job” on issues of foreign policy and American security.
Moulton, who is campaigning for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020, served as an officer in the Marines and told CNN’s S.E. Cupp on her show S.E. Cupp Unfiltered that “I think it’s time for the generation that went to Iraq and Afghanistan to take over for the generation that sent us there.”
Cupp noted that Moulton was seemingly the only Democratic candidate making national security and foreign policy a focus of his campaign, noting that former vice president Joe Biden has experience from his time in the Barack Obama administration.
Cupp added that Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI) and Mayor Pete Buttigieg – who are also seeking the nomination – have served in the U.S. military like Moulton.
“I don’t know why I’m the only one running on these issues,” he responded. “The single most important thing across the country is beating Donald Trump and this is the place where he’s weakest.”
“You know, for too long the Republican Party has tried to own issues of security, of strength, of patriotism, of what makes America safe. And Trump is not doing a good job,” Moulton said.
“We’ve got to provide leadership on the Democratic side of aisle to show how we will make America strong and safe and secure in the world ahead,” he continued.
Before announcing his run for president, Moulton was a vocal part of the push to challenge House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) for leadership of the House following the 2018 midterm elections.
