‘Does President Biden Think It’s Real?’ Briefing Room Cracks Up Over Hot Taylor Swift-Travis Kelce Goss

Hilarity ensued when reporters and Biden officials bantered about the latest Taylor Swift/Travis Kelce goss, and even asked for President Joe Biden’s assessment of the Swelce romance.

Pop-country superstar Swift has achieved another bit of crossover status with her recent appearance at a Kansas City Chiefs game, where she cheered on apparent beau Travis Kelce along with Kelce’s mom in a meme-able moment that swept the sports, entertainment, and political universes. The spotlight intensified when Swift showed up at Monday night’s Jets game and the NFL joined the fun with a controversial joke about the couple.

NSC spokesman John Kirby joined White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre at Tuesday’s White House press briefing, during which KJP needled Kirby about their backstage banter as she introduced him.

This led, somehow, to Kirby promising Peter Doocy he’d find out how the president feels about all the Taylor Swift/Travis Kelce gossip, and whether the relationship is “real”:

MS. JEAN-PIERRE: Finally, as you all know, we’re joined here by the Admiral — Admiral John Kirby, who is here to discuss the President’s calls this morning with some of our partners and allies to coordinate on how we are going to continue to — continue to support Ukraine and also take some of your foreign policy questions.

I should say that our conversation back in the back — (laughter) — should I call you out?

MR. KIRBY: Don’t (inaudible).

MS. JEAN-PIERRE: (Inaudible).

Q Tell us more. (Laughter.)

MR. KIRBY: She probably will.

MS. JEAN-PIERRE: I don’t know. We didn’t — wasn’t sure if you knew who Taylor Swift is.

MR. KIRBY: I know who Taylor Swift is. (Laughter.)

MS. JEAN-PIERRE: All right.

MR. KIRBY: Apparently, she’s dating a football player.

MS. JEAN-PIERRE: Yes. Yes.
