The View’s Sunny Hostin Fears Trump Supporter Will ‘Sneak’ onto Jury for Hush Money Trial — AKA Her ‘Super Bowl’
The View co-host and former federal prosecutor Sunny Hostin said on Tuesday she fears that Donald Trump supporters will infiltrate the jury in his ongoing Manhattan trial.
Trump arrived on Tuesday for his second day of the trial where jury selection continued. Jurors are given a 42-point questionnaire. One dismissed juror called the process “odd” and “jarring” in an MSNBC interview. Trump is facing 30 counts stemming from a hush money payment to adult film actress Stormy Daniels to cover up an alleged affair. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg charged Trump with falsifying records to hide the payment, something Trump continues to deny.
On Tuesday, The View co-host Sara Haines expressed that she was “Trumped out” with the wall-to-wall coverage of the trial.
“I’m not Trumped out at all. This is a legal nerd’s Super Bowl,” Hostin said.
She went on to refer to the trial as “my Super Bowl.”
On jury selection, Hostin argued it would be impossible to find jurors completely ignorant of the former president, referring to him as a “loser.” She then said she feared a Trump supporter would con their way onto the jury after fooling prosecutors and lead to a hung jury.
“What I did find also interesting about my Super Bowl is that the legal teams will be checking the jurors’ social media to see if they can assess the truthfulness and intention of what they said during voir dire, which is their questioning,” she said.
Hostin said someone liking Trump’s social media posts could not be trusted to be impartial. She did not express the same concern over someone equally against Trump sneaking onto the jury. The co-host also referenced conservative commentator Clay Travis recently telling Trump supporters in New York to do everything they can to get seated on the jury in the hush money trial.
“I think that’s really really important because if you start liking Trump’s [posts] and you follow Trump’s stuff on social media, are you going to — can you be impartial?” she said. “I don’t really think so.”
