Joe Rogan said Tucker Carlson “blew my f*ckin’ mind” when the former Fox News host told him that Bob Woodward received the Watergate Scandal scoop because he was a stealth asset for the FBI and CIA.

Rogan, during a new episode of his podcast on Tuesday, said the ex-Washington Post reporter was able to take down Richard Nixon with the help of the deep state.

“The whole thing was set up by the government. That’s what’s really crazy, is that intelligence agencies set up Watergate. They operated it,” Rogan said. “Bob Woodward was an intelligence agent before he was ever a reporter. Tucker Carlson told me that, [and] it blew my f*ckin’ mind. He’s like ‘What rookie reporter, for their first gig, their first story, you’re going to take down the most popular president in U.S. history?'”

Dave Smith, his guest on the episode, chimed in, joking it was a “weird coincidence” that Woodward — who served as a Naval intelligence officer from 1965 to 1970 — broke the Watergate story as a young reporter.

Rogan added that, when he was growing up, Woodward was hailed as “journalistic hero” for the Watergate scoop. Woodward’s daring reputation was solidified by the 1976 flick “All the President’s Men,” starring Robert Redford as Woodward and Dustin Hoffman as Carl Bernstein, Woodward’s partner on the story.

“Imagine that. You’re Bob Woodward, you bullshit everybody and then get to watch Robert Redford, the most handsome man alive, play you in a movie,” Rogan said. “Like, ‘Outstanding, look how good-looking I am, look at me kicking ass for America.'”

Rogan’s earlier comment referred to Episode #2138 of The Joe Rogan Experience from April 2024, which featured an interview with Carlson.

“Richard Nixon was taken out by the FBI and CIA, with the help of Bob Woodward, who was a Washington Post reporter who had been a Naval intelligence officer working in the White House — working in the Nixon White House,” Carlson said on Rogan’s podcast.

He continued: “And then [Woodward] shows up, like a year later, and he’s this brand new reporter — he’d never been a journalist at all, he’s a Naval intel officer, the famous Bob Woodward we all revere. And he’s at The Washington Post, and somehow he gets the biggest story in the history of The Washington Post.”

Carlson added that is “not how it works” in the media world, where a “kid” reporter gets the biggest scoop. The only reason Woodward got the story, Carlson said, was because Mark Felt — the deputy director of the FBI — gifted it to him in order to topple Nixon. Felt’s identify as “Deep Throat,” the key anonymous source for the story, was not revealed until 2005, three years before his death.

“Who was [Woodward’s] main source for Watergate? Oh, the number two guy at the FBI? Ohhh,” Carlson told Rogan. “So you have the Naval intelligence officer working with the FBI official to destroy the president. Okay, so that’s a deep state coup.”

Rogan on Tuesday added he was not Nixon’s biggest fan. The comedian called Nixon a “motherf*cker” and said that America was “still suffering” from his War on Drugs, among other major missteps.
