Twitter Snarks After Prince Harry and Meghan Introduce Baby Archie: Please ‘Let the Next One Be Named Jughead’
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, Duke and Duchess of Sussex, officially announced the name of their baby boy Wednesday, introducing the world to Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.
The newborn son is the seventh in line to the throne and has one of the longer and more uncommon names of the royal family. Many people reacted to the name by poking fun at the overtly high class Britishness of the baby’s name or joking about what could have inspired the name.
Dear God, I don’t ask for much. But pleeeeease let the next one be named Jughead. #Royalbaby https://t.co/Lp93kEqGjy

Archie is very toff, very Harry. Not sure where Harrison would have come from unless someone likes the Beatles. #babysussex pic.twitter.com/09lE4MRH6b

Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor is absolutely the name of the dude in every Edith Wharton novel who sits in the same opera box as the protagonist and is always making comments like “when did Pearl return from Paris anyway? I thought she was a continental girl”

According to BBC news, Archie means “genuine,” “bold’ or “brave” and is “more popular in Britain than the US.” https://t.co/sfZbAZgGtL

I’m hoping that the name Archie is cooler in Britain than it is in the United States :-)

However, a number of Twitter users noted the new royal baby shares a name with Archie Andrews, the main character of the CW show Riverdale. The show is inspired by the long-running Archie Comics franchise.
two years from now: “Archie Mountbatten-Windsor has a new brother, the Duke of Jughead.”
