Hakeem Jeffries Dodges Fox News Question on Pelosi Calling Trump a ‘Vile Creature’

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries dodged multiple questions on Fox News about his predecessor, Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), branding President Donald Trump a “vile creature” and the “worst thing on the face of the earth.”

Jeffries was asked about Pelosi’s comments during an interview with Bret Baier on his program, Special Report, on Wednesday night. Baier played a clip of Pelosi ridiculing Trump during a Monday appearance on CNN’s The Story Is, hosted by Elex Michaelson, before asking, “Do you stand by what your mentor, Congresswoman Pelosi, said about the president?”

Jeffries smirked and opted to shower Pelosi with praise, rather than answer the question.

“Nancy Pelosi — Speaker Emerita Pelosi — is a legendary figure, a hero, [and] she’s done so much for so many over so many years,” Jeffries said. “She speaks powerfully, she speaks authentically, she speaks eloquently on issues of importance to the American people.”

“Even in that moment?” Baier quickly followed up.

Jeffries again skipped past answering and complimented Pelosi some more.

“As I indicated, Nancy Pelosi is a legend. She has done more for people here in this country than almost every single American who has served in the House of Representatives,” Jeffries said. “She’s a force of nature, she’s made a difference in the lives of millions of people and it’s been an honor and a privilege to serve with her over these years that I’ve spent in Congress.”

Baier then thanked Jeffries and said he is welcome back on Special Report, before going into a commercial break.

Pelosi, during the aforementioned CNN interview, said she believed Trump was the “worst thing” in the world because he “does not honor the Constitution.”

Jeffries was selected to replace Pelosi as the top Democrat in the House in late 2022, following the midterm elections.

He has been making the media rounds lately, blaming Republicans for not extending Obamacare subsidies in order to end the government shutdown. Jeffries told MSNBC last week that Trump and Republicans are “willing to starve children” rather than use emergency funds to cover SNAP benefits. He made similar comments to Baier on Wednesday night when asked about the shutdown.
