Morning Joe Hammers NBC Decision to Hire Ronna McDaniel With Supercut of Her Election Denial

Two MSNBC employees made it abundantly clear where they stand on their new colleague former RNC chair Ronna McDaniel, and McDaniel likely won’t have to worry about waking up early for Morning Joe.

Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski addressed the hiring of McDaniel by NBC, something that has drawn criticism by many because of McDaniel’s role in trying to overturn the 2020 election in favor of former President Donald Trump. After her NBC debut on Sunday’s Meet the Press, NBC’s Chuck Todd delivered a stunning on-air rebuke of the decision. On Monday, Brzezinki and Scarborough offered their own:

Scarborough: I know you won’t be surprised to know that we’ve been inundated with calls this weekend, as have most people connected with this network about NBC’s decision to hire her. We learned about the hiring when we read about it in the press on Friday. We weren’t asked our opinion of the hiring, but if we were, we would have strongly objected to it for several reasons including, but not limited to, as lawyers might say, Miss McDaniel’s role in Donald Trump’s fake elector scheme and her pressuring election officials to not certify election results while Donald Trump was on the phone.

Brzezinski: To be clear, we believe NBC news should seek out conservative Republican voices to provide balance in their election coverage. But it should be conservative Republicans, not a person who used her position of power to be an anti-democracy election denier. And we hope NBC will reconsider its decision. It goes without saying that she will not be a guest on Morning Joe in her capacity as a paid contributor. Here’s why.

At that point, Brzezinksi played a montage of McDaniel making statements on Meet the Press the day before that still attempted to paint the 2020 election as having “lots of problems.” While she did tell Meet the Press moderator Kristen Welker that President Joe Biden “won. He’s the legitimate winner. Fair and square. He won. It’s certified. It’s done,” she still added, “I do think it’s fair to say there were problems in 2020.”

Coming back from the clip, Brzezinski muttered, “Exhausting.”
