‘BLAH BLAH BLAH’: Jamie Raskin and Matt Gaetz Throw Down for 10 Minutes Over January 6, Trump’s Big Lie

Rep. Jamie Raskin (D- MD) battled Rep. Matt Gaetz (R- FL) for 10 minutes Wednesday over January 6 and the big lie about the 2020 election.

Gaetz spoke Wednesday before the House Rules Committee, convened to discuss the Steve Bannon criminal contempt report voted on by the January 6 select committee.

Raskin started off by asking Gaetz, “Do you accept that Joe Biden won?”

“I accept that Joe Biden is the president,” Gaetz said.

Raskin pressed him on whether he would acknowledge Biden won fair and square.

“Our election was uniquely polluted by these indiscriminate mail-in ballots,” Gaetz responded.

Raskin repeatedly confronted him on whether there is any actual evidence of corruption or fraud that “materially altered the outcome of the presidential election.”

“I believe that had mail ballots not been sent to people who had not requested them, that Donald Trump would be sitting behind the Resolute Desk right now,” Gaetz said.

Raskin brought up all the judges who flat-out rejected every claim brought by the Trump team.

“You cannot say that the court decided that there was no fraud if they didn’t take up the question or review the facts,” Gaetz said.

“That might work on Steve Bannon’s podcast,” Raskin shot back, “but that’s not going to work in the Rules Committee.”

Moving on to January 6, Raskin asked Gaetz if he would be similarly opposed to an investigation if al-Qaeda or ISIS had attacked the Capitol.

“I would think that the least capable institution to bring them to justice would be this January 6th committee,” Gaetz said.

They continued arguing back and forth for several more minutes. At one point Gaetz brought up “the Russia hoax” and said Democrats are so focused on January 6 because they “have no other legislation.”

“Blah blah blah,” Raskin responded.
