‘Blame the ADL’: NBC’s Ben Collins Digs Up Elon Musk’s Master Plan For War Against The ‘Globalist American Empire’

NBC News’s Ben Collins joined Rachel Maddon on Monday night to discuss his latest reporting on the “roadmap” Elon Musk appears to be following, a plan that explicitly aims to bring down the “globalist American empire.”

Maddow introduced her conversation with Collins by reading from his latest article, “On the day that public records revealed that Elon Musk had become Twitter’s biggest shareholder, an unknown sender texted the billionaire and recommended an article imploring him to acquire the social media [platform] outright.”

“Musk’s purchase of Twitter, the 3,000-word anonymous article said, would amount to a declaration of war against the globalist American empire. The sender of the text was offering the Tesla and SpaceX CEO a playbook for the takeover and transformation of Twitter,” Maddow continued.

Collins reported that the texts sent to Musk on April 4th, 2020 laid out a step-by-step plan that Musk subsequently has followed since taking over Twitter, “including his ongoing attacks against the Anti-Defamation League, a nonprofit organization founded by Jewish Americans to counter discrimination.”

Maddow then asked Collins to explain a bit about how he discovered these texts and why his reporting on them has been a “journey.”

“It’s been a long journey because we’ve been trying to find out who sent that text message. That text message is public because Twitter tried to sue Elon Musk to get him to go through with the purchase of Twitter last year,” Collins began, adding:

And Elon initially said, ‘No, I’m not doing that.’ Part of the discovery process was him revealing a bunch of these texts. Most of these texts in that discovery process were publicly known who sent them. For example, Richard Spencer, the white nationalist. His name is in this tranche of documents. It’s a long laundry list of people, including like an Infowars host who are in these documents. But for some reason, despite a nine-month fight with the Delaware Chancery Court that me and my colleague Lora Kolodny at CNBC went through, we still cannot figure out who sent this text message.

Maddow asked Collins to then elaborate on how the plan texted to Musk both explains his seemingly erratic behavior and fits in with the rightward turn that Twitter has taken under his leadership.

“This blog outlines exactly what would happen for the next 18 months. Basically, he says you should invite back on all the far-right users. That might chase away most users, most people from this website that you now own that you paid for, but it’s worth it for the project,” Collins replied, adding:

And by the way, you’re going to lose all your advertisers. He says this outright, but then he says, ‘I have a plan for that. You should blame the ADL.’ Which to most people would come out of left field in the last few weeks, like, why is Elon Musk so angry at the ADL? But in this sphere, in what I would call the Bannon-sphere, this is where Darren Beattie sort of lives. The ADL is a common enemy.

And Darren Beattie went on after after this was published on his blog, he went on Tucker Carlson’s website and basically recited the stuff sorry, on Tucker Carlson Show, which no longer exists and basically recited the stuff 1 to 1. So I don’t know exactly where Elon Musk saw this stuff, probably when he was texted it, but it is pretty clearly a playbook that Elon Musk either ran directly parallel to or read from himself.

Musk’s attacks on the ADL, which included hyping a known anti-semitic white nationalist and promoting anti-semitic tropes, resulted in an avalanche of criticism, but do not seem to have deterred Musk’s outlandish online behavior. In recent days Musk has attacked Ukraine for continuing to seek foreign aid in its efforts to fend off the brutal Russian invasion.

Collins read directly from the article sent to Musk as the interview wound down. “Can I just read you to the end of this article because it’s kind of fascinating. He says, ‘The globalist American empire will never be brought down unless people like Elon Musk are ready to step up to the plate with the genuinely bold, risky, and meaningful moves like buying and liberating Twitter. But it will not be easy. It will be war. Let the battle begin.’”
