Trump Axes Secret Service Protection for Kamala Harris Weeks Before Book Tour

President Donald Trump cancelled former Vice President Kamala Harris’s Secret Service detail on Thursday, revoking an extension quietly granted by former President Joe Biden in his final days in office.

In a letter seen by CNN and sent yesterday to the Secretary of Homeland Security, Trump wrote: “You are hereby authorized to discontinue any security-related procedures previously authorized by Executive Memorandum, beyond those required by law, for the following individual, effective September 1, 2025: Former Vice President Kamala D. Harris.”

Harris’s statutory six months of protection expired in July, but Biden had reportedly ordered another year of coverage, a directive never publicly disclosed until now.

Trump’s decision means Harris will lose not only round-the-clock agents but also the Secret Service’s wider surveillance and threat-monitoring network.

The move lands just weeks before Harris is to begin a nationwide book tour to promote her memoir 107 Days.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
