‘Can’t Hang Out With the KKK!’ Jasmine Crockett Says ‘Conservative’ Black People Don’t Join GOP Because Republicans Are ‘Racist’

Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) straight-up called Republicans racist while explaining why Black people don’t vote for the GOP at an event earlier this month.

During a panel discussion at the Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival, Crockett made the comments in a clip making the rounds on social media. After slamming President Donald Trump for building a White House ballroom and arguing that his administration knows how to “specifically get at Black folk’s emotional triggers,” Crockett said:

I talk to Black folk all the time as somebody that’s a child of a preacher. Listen, most Black people are not Republicans simply because we just is like, “Y’all racist. I can’t hang out with the KKK and them.” That’s really what it is. But when we think about who we are as Black people, and we think about where we come from, most Black people have very conservative values, right? But the reality is that like, we just can’t side with like the neo-Nazis and them. We like, “We not-, we not dealing with y’all like that, right?

Crockett has made a name for herself as a national figure in recent months by emerging as one of Trump and his party’s most strident critics.

We’ve got a mental health crisis in this country because everyone, no matter how you affiliate yourself, should be against Trump, period. This is not partisan for me,” declared Crockett in an interview earlier this summer.

While the congresswoman has earned plaudits from some for her adversarial posture, others have expressed concern that she’s a loose cannon doing more harm than good.

Crockett was widely criticized, for example, after she mocked Greg Abbott, the disabled Republican governor of Texas, by referring to him as “Governor Hot Wheels.” At the time, she refused to apologize and insisted that her comment had nothing to do with Abbott’s use of a wheelchair, although it was quickly discovered that she had a long history of mocking Abbott’s disability.
