CNN’s Jim Acosta Asks If Trump 3rd Term Bill Will Result In ‘More Political Violence’

CNN anchor Jim Acosta asked former DC metropolitan police officer Michael Fanone — who was brutally assaulted and had a heart attack as a result of the Capitol riot — if a bill allowing President Donald Trump to serve a third term will “lead to political violence?”

Rep. Andy Ogles (R-TN) publicized a draft constitutional amendment that would allow Trump to serve a third term, but is worded to surgically prevent former Presidents Barack ObamaGeorge W. Bush, and Bill Clinton from doing the same. The proposed amendment contains a provision that eliminates presidents who serve two consecutive terms:

No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than three times, nor be elected to any additional term after being elected to two consecutive terms, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice.

On Friday’s edition of CNN Newsroom With Jim Acosta, the anchor wrapped up his interview with Fanone by asking about the resolution and the potential for violence:

JIM ACOSTA: I do want to ask you one final question, and that is there’s a Republican congressman who has introduced a resolution that would allow Trump to serve a third term in office. Are you concerned that this could lead to more political violence in this country?

MICHAEL FANONE: I mean, listen, I — I don’t understand what it’s going to take for the American people to wake up and view this guy for who he is.

You know, we all experienced him during his first term, but for some reason, four years later, we have whitewashed all of the outrageous things that he has done.

And, you know, here we are saddled with another four years of Donald Trump. The idea that we would break from our Constitution to allow this person to serve again should absolutely shock the conscience of every American.

JIM ACOSTA: All right, Mike Fanone, thank you for what you do and for what you continue to do. And that is tell the truth about what happened on January 6th. Mike, good to see you. Appreciate it.

MICHAEL FANONE: Likewise. Thank you.
