Fetterman Pressed On Fox News About Whether He Plans to Switch Parties
Would Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) ditch the Democrats and join the Republican Party?
That is what Fox News host Maria Bartiromo wanted to know when the Pennsylvania senator joined Sunday Morning Futures on, well, Sunday.
“We know there’s been real extremists who have tried to hijack the Democratic party, and whether it’s policy or the way they talk, and look, you’ve seen it on the right in some cases as well, all the way. But on the left, you’ve got such extremes, Would you consider switching parties?” Bartiromo asked.
“No, I’m not going to switch,” Fetterman told her.
He then said he will never turn to incendiary language, like some left-wingers have by comparing President Donald Trump — and Republican voters in general — to Nazis.
“If you want a Democrat that’s going to call people Nazis or fascists or all these kinds of things, well, I’m not going to be that guy. Independent thinking and views — wherever I happen to believe the truth [is], regardless if it’s the Republican or the Democratic voice.”
Fetterman then pointed to two areas where he has differed with many progressives — on Israel and a potential U.S. government shutdown. The senator told Fox news that he will always side with Israel, and that he always believes government shutdowns should be avoided.
“I follow Israel through this,” Fetterman said a moment later. “And I would like to remind everybody if they were pushed into a ceasefire a year ago, you know, the beepers and [killing of Hamas leader Yahya] Sinwar and eliminating all of Hezbollah and Iran now too — think of where they could be, what they’ve accomplished. And now it’s end game. And this war does have to end, and that’s why Netanyahu’s been forced to do this and go into Gaza City. That’s why I’m going to follow Israel, just as I’ve done for now going on two years.”
Bartiromo then thanked him for his “independence,” and for coming on the show.
