Veteran federal prosecutor Maurene Comey, known for her work on the Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell cases, delivered a scathing rebuke of the Trump administration just one day after her abrupt dismissal from the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Manhattan.

In an exit message circulated to colleagues as she left the premises on Thursday, Comey warned that “fear is the tool of a tyrant,” in what appeared to be a veiled hit at both President Donald Trump and Attorney General Pam Bondi.

“If a career prosecutor can be fired without reason, fear may seep into the decisions of those who remain,” she wrote in the message obtained by Politico. “Do not let that happen.”

“We have entered a new phase where ‘without fear’ may be the challenge,” she continued, referencing the office’s longtime motto of impartiality, adding: “Let this moment fuel the fire that already burns at the heart of this place… Of commitment to seek justice for victims. Of dedication to truth above all else.”

Comey’s sudden termination came amid public outcry over the DOJ’s refusal to release further records in the Epstein case.

Comey told Politico on Wednesday she received no reason for her dismissal, only a memo from the Justice Department informing her of the move.

The Trump administration is also said to be investigating Comey’s father, former FBI director James Comey, whom Trump removed from office in his first term.
