GOP Congressman Nearly Tanked Trump’s ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ by Falling Asleep and Missing Critical Vote

Breaking snooze from the halls of Congress!

The crucial vote to pass President Donald Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” through the House of Representatives was nearly derailed after one Republican missed it when he fell asleep.

Andrew Garbarino (R-NY) was elsewhere getting some shut-eye as Congress voted on the sweeping tax and immigration bill. House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) revealed why Garbarino missed the vote, talking to reporters Thursday after the bill passed the House.

The “Big Beautiful Bill” passed 215-214, a difference of just one vote, which was a lot closer than it should have been, according to Johnson, who joked that he’d like to “strangle” Garbarino.

“We actually had 217 votes this morning,” Johnson told reporters after the bill passed. “Andrew Garbarino did not make it in time. He fell asleep in the back. No kidding. I know, I’m gonna just strangle him. But then — but he’s my dear friend.”

In addition, Johnson said another Republican vote wasn’t counted after he just missed casting his vote.

“And then David Schweikert was gonna vote and slipped his card in right at the last minute. So it looks like a razor-thin margin. That’s how they would have voted if he had gotten the card in on time.”

Two Republicans – Reps. Thomas Massie (KY) and Warren Davidson (OH) – rejected their party’s bill and voted against it alongside all of their Democratic colleagues.
