‘HA-Ha!’ Late-Night Host Gleefully Taunts Trump Over Threat To His Parade From Lightning
Late-night host Stephen Colbert gleefully taunted President Donald Trump over the prospect that his upcoming military parade could be canceled due to the weather.
Trump is very much looking forward to the military parade scheduled on Saturday to ostensibly celebrate the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army — which also coincides with Trump’s 79th birthday.
That parade is supposed to go on even if it rains, according to a U.S. Army spokesman, but lightning is a different story — the Army says it could be “canceled or postponed” if heavy thunderstorms develop.
On Thursday night’s edition of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the star — a vocal critic of the president — was fairly bursting at the idea that Trump’s parade might be ruined:
STEPHEN COLBERT: Folks I have got some great news. We’re going to have some terrible weather on the East Coast on Saturday. And that means Trump’s birthday parade may be canceled due to thunderstorms!
(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)
STEPHEN COLBERT: HA-ha!
Ha-ha! You made God mad and now he’s shooting lightning at your birthday tanks!
This is true. This actually might happen. According to the Army spokesman, “Rain won’t stop us. But if there’s lightning that puts the crowd at risk, they will cancel or postpone. It will depend on the president, too, when he’s available.”
Let me tell you, if it’s raining, he won’t be available. Because if he gets too wet, it all slides off.
(LAUGHTER).
And someone has to carry his face and his hair around in a bucket.
That’s not the only bad news for Trump’s big day. Polls show six in 10 Americans say a military parade is not a good use of government money.
No, it’s a complete waste. It’s a completely waste of government monies, especially since he’s already throwing a big military parade out in Los Angeles.
Oh, you watch the news, that’s interesting.
If this birthday jackboot jamboree does come off, officially, it’s to honor the 250th anniversary of the Army, which is why they’re planning to have the troops march in historical military costumes from the Revolutionary War to today. They’re showing off every era of Army fashion. Colonial, War of 1812, apple-bottom jeans, boots with the fur.
