‘He Was Attentive’: CNN Correspondent Reports Trump Was Locked In During Supreme Court Argument — Before He Bailed
CNN chief Supreme Court analyst Joan Biskupic claimed President Donald Trump was “attentive” during Wednesday’s Supreme Court oral arguments.
Trump became the first sitting president to attend Supreme Court arguments when he chose to sit in for his case against birthright citizenship. During the hearing, the justices did not appear convinced by the arguments made by the president’s legal team, and it did not seem as though the Supreme Court would bring an end to centuries-old right given to the children of immigrants.
At some point in the session, Trump left the chamber and raged about birthright citizenship being “stupid” in a Truth Social post.
Moments later, Biskupic, who was also in attendance, joined CNN’s Manu Raju to describe the scene as Trump listened to the proceedings. She said that Trump, who was joined by Secret Service agents, walked into the chamber “just like other members of the public” and had to be screened. At some point, he also changed seats. She continued:
So, you know, we were all aware [he was there]. People were trying to stand up to see him, and the guards, the police officers were saying, “You have to sit down, you have to sit down. The Secret Service wants you all sitting down.” So there were all sorts of new rules there, Manu, but it did not change essentially how it affected him as a visitor. It was as if he were a member of Congress, who you would know well, coming in and sitting in that section; and as far as we could tell, he was attentive.
I should tell you that in the beginning when he first sat, he had about 10, 12 minutes before the proceedings started, and I saw him looking around, kind of scoping out the place. You know, it’s a beautiful setting, and as far as I know, he had only been there once before at the time that Neil Gorsuch, his first Supreme Court pick, was chosen and he was there for the investiture.
