‘I Don’t Want You to Be Comfortable’: Trump Shoots Down Idea of ‘Big, Beautiful Briefing Room’ for Reporters

President Donald Trump jokingly pooh-poohed the idea of a “big, beautiful” White House briefing room after announcing the federalization of Washington, D.C., on Monday, telling reporters, “I don’t want you to be comfortable.”

The lighthearted moment came as Trump, minutes after laying out his plan for a federal takeover to bring down the district’s crime rate, took a question from Real America’s Voice reporter Brian Glenn.

“This is the most people we’ve ever seen in this briefing room ever, right?” Glenn asked.

For clarification, Trump called over White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt to confirm.

“Yes, this is definitely the most packed briefing, and I think all of you would agree,” Leavitt said. “I think that’s why we need to build a ballroom.”

As the room broke out in laughter, Glenn followed up: “You are building a big, beautiful ballroom. Could we build a big, beautiful briefing room, more technology, more seats?”

“I don’t want to do that,” Trump answered to guffaws from assembled reporters. “I don’t want you to be comfortable.”

BRIAN GLENN: This is the most people we’ve ever seen in this briefing room ever, right?

PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: Where is Karoline, where is my superstar? Karoline, where is she? Is Karoline in the crowd? Come here, Karoline. Come here. Come here. Is she doing a good job, by the way? Come here. Is this the largest crowd that you’ve ever seen?

KAROLINE LEAVITT: Yes, this is definitely the most packed briefing, and I think all of you would agree. I think that’s why we need to build a ballroom.

GLENN: You are building a big, beautiful ballroom. Could we build a big, beautiful briefing room, more technology, more seats?

TRUMP: I don’t want to do that. I don’t want you to be comfortable. So, no, I don’t want to make life comfortable.

Moments earlier, Trump declared Monday as “Liberation Day in D.C.,” as he announced the rollout of “a historic action to rescue our nation’s capital from crime, bloodshed, bedlam, and squalor, and worse.”

The plan will include the deployment of the National Guard to the streets of Washington and placeS the local police under federal control, emboldening them to do “whatever the hell they want.”
