‘I’m Not Making Things Up!’ MSNBC’s Katy Tur Snaps At Tim Kaine For Accusing Her of ‘Overdramatizing’ Dem Split

MSNBC’s Katy Tur snapped back at Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA) Monday after he accused her of “overdramatizing” a rift in the Democratic Party following the Senate vote that paved the way for an end to the government shutdown.

Kaine was one of eight Democratic senators who voted with Republicans Sunday night to approve the House’s continuing resolution to reopen the government.

Tur asked the senator why he trusted the White House to make good on any promises to negotiate better health care for Americans.

“Oh, I don’t trust the White House,” Kaine said. “The commitments I’ve told you are now written into statute. I trust my Senate Republican colleagues that we will have a vote. It’s not on a guaranteed outcome.”

Still, Kane added, “I think it’s a fight we can win.”

“It doesn’t seem like some of the party’s just angry about this — It seems like this is ripping the party apart at a time where it felt like the party was coming back together post elections,” Tur said.

Kaine interjected, “Can I just say, ‘ripping the party apart?’ I think you’re overdramatizing this. I mean, I know the news business is to try to make everything, like, the biggest crisis.”

Read their exchange below:

TUR: Well, let me, hold on, hold on, hold on. Don’t, don’t, don’t say it’s me.

KAIINE: There’s differences of opinion!

TUR: I will quote your fellow Democrats.

KAINE: There’s differences of opinion.

TUR: Gavin Newsom calls it “pathetic.” Hakeem Jeffries, “complete BS.”

KAINE: Please, go ahead!

TUR: AOC says, “This is not about a base of voters. This is about people’s lives.”

KAINE: And, Katie, guess what? Guess what?

TUR: Chris Murphy says it makes Donald Trump stronger. “This is a moment that demands fighters. Not folders.”

KAINE: OK, yeah.

TUR: I mean, this is me quoting Democrats. I’m not making things up. I’m reading what people are saying.
